LG 27EP950-B Reviews
Slow to wake up on MacOS
The display is beautiful, as is light text on black backgrounds. The colors are outstanding. But one problem consistently mars the experience: the display is slow to wake up on MacOS. Modern Macs wake up, ready for use, nearly instantly; this UltraFine monitor consistently takes 5 - 10 seconds to be ready. I've read that Apple's 27 Studio Display is also nearly instantly ready to go. I contacted LG to see if any new firmware might be available, but the support person said no. A monitor this expensive should wake from sleep fast.
Great panel, cheaply made
I've been on the hunt for a professional monitor. Started with the Dell UP2715K, but it had image retention issues and only displayed 8k on Windows, plus I decided 32 inches was too big. Moved to BenQ SW271c, but couldn't deal with the IPS panel glow for dark photographs & its incomplete P3 coverage. This LG EP950-B was incredible at first-I fell in love with the Oled blacks & complete P3 & Adobe RGB coverage & the super lightweight design was nice, too. But that lightweight design also belied the cheapness of the product. The bezel started ungluing on the right side of the monitor. Then the USB-C port stopped working and got loose, like a loose tooth. I switched to using Display Port. After a couple of weeks, the screen started to flicker & that was it. Too much money for such a flimsy case, even though the panel was gorgeous. Waiting for someone to put the same or similar panel in a well-built case. In the meantime, I may head over to Eizo.
So for so good
Connected to iMac and Apple TV great picture. Only had it a couple of days, nice and bright to bright for my office. Will check calibration and and adjust grayscale after break in.
