What is the benefit of the "regulated" output ...

What is the benefit of the "regulated" output voltage? Does that mean a simpler cable without regulated output voltage is less safe? Thanks.

A regulated cable is more than just for safety. Many devices do NOT work if fed more than 12V. Check your device's specs. If 12-17v is listed powering from a large battery will work without regulation. Most batteries put out 14-15 volts this will not power a 12 volt only device
