Poly Savi 8245 Overview

The Savi 8245 UC Wireless DECT Headset from Plantronics is ideal for an office setting, thanks to its noise-canceling, flexible boom mic and versatile connectivity options. The mic can block out distracting ambient sounds, helping to ensure a clear conversation. You can even adjust the level of noise cancellation with the Close Conversation Limiting feature, which is adjusted in the Plantronics' Hub software.

The Savi 8245 headset provides you with up to 7 hours of talk time per battery, but practically unlimited talk time by regularly swapping the two included headset batteries. While one is in use, you can recharge the other inside the base station. The included DECT USB adapter lets you connect to your Mac or Windows-based PC, where you can use it with a softphone application. The battery will only recharge when connected to a PC via USB.

The wireless range of the headset is up to 590' using DECT technology and when within line-of-sight of the base, making it an ideal solution for walking around the office.

3-Way Convertible Design
The Savi 8245 monaural headset can be worn in one of three ways with included accessories. It comes with an ear hook, a behind-the-head neckband, and an over-the head headband.
Conferencing
Conference up to four Savi 8200 series headsets to a single base for training and group collaboration.
DECT Security Certified
The headset is DECT Security Certified, which utilizes security standards to help ensure your conversations stay private.
Plantronics Hub
With the Plantronics Hub program for Windows and Mac PCs, you can adjust the Savi 8245 headsets settings and view its status. You get a visual indicator of mute and battery status, call control with call answer/end, mute, and volume adjustment, change the voice prompt language, and more.
SoundGuard DIGITAL
This feature is designed to help protect your hearing while using the headset. SoundGuard DIGITAL protects against sound levels above 118 dBA. It also features G616 anti-startle technology that is made to detect and eliminate any large, sudden increase in signal level. Note that SoundGuard DIGITAL requires Plantronics Hub software.
IT Management
The Savi 8245 can be managed by IT professionals with Plantronics Manager Pro, which is a software-as-a-service that's sold separately. The program allows you to maintain the headset and monitor its usage.

Mostly good, but battery life a fail

TLDR: ergonomics, functions, sound quality (for speech), and range are all excellent as expected. Battery life, not so much. Glad this has swappable batteries. OK, the TLDR basically sums it up (I guess that's the point, eh). This headset replaced a savi 445 which I would give 3 stars (lasted only a few years and accessory charger died). I replaced the 445 when the internals went kablooi, and nobody could hear me any more. For reference, I use this for shifts that last up to 12 hours at a time. Approximately 3/4 of that time is active calls. Ugh. The 8245 is better at everything. Better sound, better ambient noise reduction, better button ergonomics for mute/volume, better (smaller) USB dongle thingy... But worse battery life. I could reliably get 8 hours out of the 445, and the 8245 starts telling me I have a low battery at about 4-5 hours. By decreasing the DECT range and modifying a few settings in preferences, I was able to push it to 7 hours, but it's still kinda lame that this expensive piece of tech won't last a full work day. Glad it has a second battery and accessory charger. I would recommend it with the caveat that you should DEFINITELY get the 8245 and NOT the 8240 if you expect to be using it for more than 4-5 hours at a time. Hmmm... maybe the real problem here is my job?

Software not awesome for Mac and battery life so-so

I am using this on a recent macbook pro and the software that enables additional features locks up several times every day and needs to be restarted to make the mute work correctly. Plantronics support has been pretty useless and took over a week to stop sending me windows trouble shooting tips :-) Also, despite advertising the single batter unit as having a 7 hour talk time I only get about 2-3 hours of active use out of the headset before the low battery notices start gong off in my ear. Lucky for me I got the version with the spare battery. Overall, it works, just not the way that they advertise it and with mediocre customer support and poor software.
