Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 Lens

Sleek and nimble, the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 is a compact short-telephoto prime designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras. The 85mm focal length is ideally suited for portraiture and more selective shooting and pairs with a modestly bright f/1.8 maximum aperture that offers depth of field control while also promoting a sleek form factor. The optical design incorporates a pair of extra-low dispersion elements, which help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve high clarity and accurate color rendering. This lens is also characterized by its linear AF motor, for fast focusing performance, and its dust-, moisture-, and freeze-resistant design to enable working in tough environmental conditions.

Prime portrait-length lens is designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used on APS-C models where it will provide a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers control over depth of field and suits working in available lighting conditions as well as promotes a compact form factor.
Two extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and limit color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Chiaro Pro 67mm 98-UVAT UV Filter

The Pro 67mm 98-UVAT UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highest-rated protective UV filters with 98% light transmission. It’s ideal for photographers who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for excellent image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 98% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. Resistance coating improves the scratch resistance of the glass, and helps assure that water, oil, dust, and fingerprints are removed with a gentle wipe. A hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it’s thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses.

98% Light Transmission

Resistance Coating

The layers of advanced resistance coating on the filter are designed to resist moderate scratches, and allows you to easily clean your filter. Polished Optical Glass

I've shot Cooke glass on Red camera systems over the course of my career, and I can honestly say that this 85mm on our S1h yields comparable results. We have two of these lenses that we use almost exclusively for interviews. We consistently get tack sharp focus wide open, with excellent subject separation, color rendering, minimal distortion, and smooth bokeh. Perhaps it's more the Lumix S cameras systems, but like the 20-60mm and, to a slightly lesser degree, the 50mm 1.8, these lenses seem custom-built for video. They deliver astonishing results when used for that purpose. They don't perform quite as well for stills work as the autofocus is still subpar compared to other manufactures. (I will say it is getting markedly better with each camera update.) I've experienced some frustration attempting to get the camera and lens to focus on where I would like in the frame.

This lens is just great, with it's reach you can shoot portrait from a distance for example in weddings without people seeing you and you just get the spontaneous shots that you're looking for, same thing for videography as well. Very Sharp and fast lens, highly recommended

How does this lens do with chromatic aberration? I'm familiar with the popular Canon 85mm 1.8, so perhaps a comparison to that would be appreciated. Thanks.

This lens is good but not the best in terms of Chromatic Aberrations. This is a very sharp lens across the frame. And while It may suffer comparatively from Chromatic Aberrations, this is very easily fixed in software.

It would not be valid for use in India. Focus by wire, but the S series of LUMIX cameras have a setting where you can change the focus mode to linear as well as changing the focus throw, thereby making it behave as a mechanical focus. Better, even.
