Roland AE30 Overview

Roland has greatly upgraded their flagship woodwind-style synth with the Aerophone Pro, a digital wind instrument that allows any sax or clarinet player to perform ZEN-Core SuperNATURAL Acoustic sounds, or trigger MIDI in a manner more commensurate with their chosen instrument. Simply put, the Aerophone Pro fuses a traditional saxophone fingering system with a library of onboard acoustic and synth sounds, allowing the user to create whole tapestries of sound whenever the moment strikes. Use it onstage to add electronic versatility to performances, or use it in the studio as the hub of your production process.

The Aerophone Pro boasts numerous upgrades to the original. The design is more sleek and elegant; the breath and bite sensors have been redone to provide more authenticity. The sounds are better, and there are more of them. Bluetooth MIDI and a full MIDI I/O section is provided. You can plug in your headphones, route to a speaker, or use the built in speakers. If you've ever wanted to play synths as you would a saxophone, this is the instrument for you.

While developing the Aerophone Pro, Roland reached out to expert wind players around the globe to see how they could enhance the Aerophone experience. This feedback led to many thoughtful improvements that substantially upgrade the instrument's look, feel, sound, and playability.
Refined Defined
With just one look at the Aerophone Pro, you'll notice the sleek new design and premium materials. The shape is thinner and easier to hold than the previous models, providing a more confident playing experience. Controls are easy to reach, and the streamlined body, complete with aluminum accents, exudes an understated yet classy appearance. Familiar Fingering
Fingering is the same as an acoustic sax and includes a high F# key, so sax players will already know how to play it. Configurable controls for both hands and a MIDI input for footswitches greatly expand your performance options. Through extensive research and development, the breath and bite sensors are more responsive and expressive than before, with low latency and configurable settings to suit your unique playing style.
Authentic Acoustic Sounds
Aerophone Pro packs an entire brass and woodwind section into a single instrument. Developed closely with professional wind instrument players, the instrument packs newly enhanced soprano, alto, and tenor saxes, as well as vibrant trumpet sounds, and authentic world instruments. Roland's SuperNATURAL technology translates every nuance of your playing with lifelike dynamics, articulations, and overtones. Multiple custom fingerings are supported, while new controller options enable idiomatic performance techniques on a range of instruments from mainstream to exotic.

With Roland's ZEN-Core Synthesis System, Aerophone Pro is an immensely capable wind synthesizer. Windcontroller w best built-in Acoustic Sounds

Although I have played and virtually all of the Akai EWI windcontrollers over the last 20+ years, these Roland Aerophones, esp this Pro Model has the absolute best Acoustic Instrument sounds. Although I still prefer the EWI's non mechanical key design, the sound of the brass, the saxes, the strings, the double reeds are very very good. Not quite as good as external virtual instruments by samplemodeling and audiomodeling. One more terrific feature are the extra control features the Aerophone Pro is that you can tilt the instrument Up and Down, and Sideways, so you can program additional parameters to your liking. You also have the option of Bluetooth, for both audio and MIDI transmission, so you can have wireless communication. Although Non-Acoustic sounds are less interesting to me, people to whom it is important have nothing but praise for those sound banks. Finally, Roland equipment is well built, and updates are available on a regular basis.
