Leofoto LHC-50 Reviews

Perfect for monopod mount

I had a mount with a locking lever and adjustable clamping pressure for a Manfrotto 685B monopod supporting my OM1 with 150-600mm M Zuiko lens. The pressure needed to be adjusted each time I used the monopod which I found annoying and offset the security of the locking lever. The Leofoto screw-knob clamp is very quick to use and secure. I love the quick height adjustment of the Manfrotto - together they are compact and quick to set up.

Well made clamp, some customization needed

Well made clamp, light but strong, good and useful position markings on top. The bubble level is superfluous and I would prefer to have a clear center mark on that side of the clamp instead of the level. My general complaint about many of these clamps is the key way cut out on the bottom of the clamp; see the photo of the bottom. That cutout is there so you can mate two clamps together with anti-twist flanges, but those flanges are not standardized. I would prefer a fully solid bottom around the 3/8-16 tapped center hole. I hate those flimsy stainless steel reduction adapters all the manufacturers include; one broke on me once and a $30K camera with lens tumbled to the floor. I will never trust one again, even a professional long brass one. I installed this platform on my FLM CB-48F ballhead. I bought a stainless steel 3/8-16 flat-head hex-key screw and carefully ground the way-too-big flat top on a bench grinder so that the screw would nest properly in the tapped hole. This required some careful and tedious work.I also filled the bottom key way with steel epoxy putty to have a perfectly flat and solid surface to mate with the ball head's stem. Thread locker blue used and it seems solid. The clamp works smoothly with the L-plate of my camera.
