Leofoto Universal Tripod Rock Bag
Key Features
  • Bag for Adding Weight
  • Adjustable Length
  • Big Load Capacity and Rip Off
The Leofoto Universal Tripod Rock Bag creates a compartment between the legs under the tripod platform. This open compartment can be used to place objects with weight to weight the tripod. This can be stones or some sand, but also any other object is possible. By increasing the pressure on the legs, the stability of the tripod is increased. This can be useful when you want to photograph in strong winds. The advantage of a weighted compartment where the weight is distributed over the three legs is that the extra weight cannot start swinging in the wind. As is the case with a sandbag attached to the bottom of the tripod platform. You can also determine the extra weight yourself, up to a maximum of 44 pounds.

While it can help to stabilize a tripod in the wind, it can also hold a spare lens, dust blower or whatever

A worthwhile Device

Some tripods come without hooks for hanging objects between their legs. Some bags may not work well with hooks, or one may not wish to risk, or to tie up, his other gear using it for ballast. This device seems adjustable to fit most tripods. It is light and folds into a small package. Hence, I consider it to be a viable option for weighing down legs which otherwise might not insure adequate stability. A Significant drawback to this design, is that one may need to use his tripod before taking the time to search for and gather rocks or other forms of local ballast. (An alternate plan may be to have sufficiently robust legs not to need ballast.) Considering its mass, this still seems worth carrying to me.
