AKG C417 Overview

The AKG Model C417L is an extremely smooth omnidirectional microphone intended to be worn by speakers who demand highest audio quality and complete freedom of movement. It is one of the smallest lavalier microphones available today and is available in both black and beige versions for ultimate concealing.

This model (C417L) terminates to a 3-pin miniature XLR connector for use with AKG Wireless Transmitters.

Good sound, but susceptible to RFI

Good sound for the price range, but with a couple caveats.  First, the cabling between the mic capsule and XLR adapter is stiff, which lends the mic to movement and handling noise - even with adding a strain loop at the mic clip. Second, and this was experienced using two different mixer/recorders, the cable and XLR adapter seem inadequately shielded. The mic picks up RFI from devices as far as 3’ away, which makes it virtually unusable in a conference table setting where all individuals need to be close mic’d for multi-channel recording. The C417 has good sound for the price and should be great for smaller interviews, but can’t be recommended for groups or depositions where devices on a conference table are the norm. The mic picks up RFI from a number of different phones and wireless carriers.

This is an addition to an identical mic. Works well as we use it for our Pastor and Associate Ministers when they preach. Great omnidirectional amplification.

Will it work with a Tascam recording device?

I am not aware of any Tascam recorders that will connect to this microphone. This mic is designed to work with AKG Wireless Transmitters only.

Will this mic work with an Audio-Technica AT8537 Phantom Power Supply Module?

The AKG C417 is not compatible with the Audio Technica power supplies. In order to power this mic with phantom or battery, the AKG MPAVL adapter is necessary which converts to standard XLR. This will then allow you to connect to a phantom power supply.

No, this microphone plugs into a wireless microphone transmitter with a 3-Pin Miniature XLR input. If you have a BluTooth transmitter that has an input for a microphone with a 3-Pin Miniature XLR, it would probably work.
