ANDYCINE C7 Reviews

Love it - so far

I bought this thing to replace my older 450 nit monitor, and it's a huge difference (see photo). I love the touchscreen, I love all the functions, it's very useful and handy. But I've just taken it out of the box, and I've read some reviews that it's not reliable. So we'll see. Meanwhile, I've put a cage around it: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1703385-REG/smallrig_3837_monitor_cage_kit_for.html Which I highly recommend. That seems to make it less likely to get damaged. I'm thinking the (plastic-mounted) HDMI ports would be the most susceptible to damage, so the cage clamps should solve that problem.

Really a pleasure to use. Put two batteries in it and power your camera from it and you can shoot a long time.

The sdi input on this monitor stopped working on its 6th use. Andycine had me send it back to Hong Kong. They've now had it for 3 months, have not repaired or replaced it, and are not answering my emails. If I'd known that they would essentially steal my monitor, I would have kept it, and used it as an HDMI only monitor. I would at least have gotten some limited use from it. But now I'm out the purchase price, and also have no monitor. Stay far away from Andycine!

This monitor is big and bright. It works great. Just plan on using two mounting points to keep it from shaking.

Faulty twice

After my first actual field use of this monitor, I noticed two issues. The brightness is supposed to be adjustable (do not need full brightness indoors for example) using the wheel on top of the monitor. When I turned it, the monitor flickered and the brightness would not change. Turning the wheel in both directions yielded no discernible difference in brightness. Nest, after about an hour of continuous use, the monitor turned itself off. Thinking it was just a dead battery, I installed a new, fully charged battery. The monitor, which seemed warm to the touch, would not turn on. This shoot took place outside in Boulder, CO with an ambient temperature of 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Overheating under these conditions should not have been an issue. While Andycine was at first responsive to emails (they requested and I sent a video recording of my attempt to adjust monitor brightness), I have heard nothing else from them. The monitor should not have overheated after such light use in a cold climate and the inability to adjust the brightness as indicated in the instructions make this monitor a poor choice and I wholeheartedly do NOT recommend it.

I bought this monitor for high school sports streaming. I use a Marshall CV346 with a zoom lens as a scoreboard camera. It gets placed pretty far away from my mixer, so it used to be a pain to get that camera focused in. I use HDMI for the camera feed and leave a short SDI cable on the camera that I can connect to this monitor. I can get the camera dialed in and leave the SDI on the camera. It works perfectly for that. I am also starting to use the monitor on my main camera as well. I can get through 2 basketball games with the dual batteries. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the menu options take a little getting used to.

Nice and bright monitor, but starts flickering after short time use and makes it useless. B&H don't give any assistance or help.

Was fine while it worked

Bought this monitor less then 6 months ago - used it twice for short 15 minute sessions and it worked fine. Then I used it a third time on a longer session - the monitor would overheat and shutdown after about 30 minutes (even in an air conditioned room with the brightness set very low). Then I noticed that the screen had developed some kind of discoloration in one of the corners. So at this point I thought that maybe a firmware update might help with the overheating, so I emailed Andycine customer service asking for a firmware update file (you have to do this through email since they don't have firmware updates on their website). I received the firmware file through email and applied it to the monitor - apparently they send me the wrong file as the monitor will no longer boot up! I've emailed their customer service department several times now about all of this and I've had no responses from them at all, so now the monitor is just a paperweight even though it is still under warranty. I bought the C7 for it's feature set but had some concerns before buying it when I read some of the bad review here and elsewhere on the internet about their products and customer service - I guess I should have trusted by gut instinct. My recommendation: stay away from Andycine.

What D-Tap cable do you recommend to run from a V-Mount battery to the monitor?
Asked by: Tim
The AndyCine monitor is a DC 12-volt power input with an input power polarity of center pin +, and outer ring -. The barrel connector is a 5.5mm outer, 2.1mm inner. Any D-Tap adapter cable to a 2.1mm barrel connector with a center + wiring should work fine for you.

I use autofocus on Canon EOS R by tapping the screen. If I use an external monitor, can I still use autofocus? I heard that the screen of the camera shuts off. Is this true?
Asked by: jerry
Before connecting an external monitor to the EOS R make sure you have the clean HDMI setting set to on. That way the on camera screen will not turn off. Then you can use the touch focus on the on camera screen.
