Robus RCC-5560 Reviews

Absolute POWERHOUSE of a tripod

I already own the Robus RC-5570 so when I needed to add a more compact tripod system, given my experience with the 5570, I quickly found that the RCC-5560 would suit my needs. And it sure does - PERFECTLY. I looked at many other alternatives with the same general specs and the bottom line is, other than spending the extra money for MARGINAL gains or to impress folks with brand recognition, I just don’t see how Gitzo, RRS, or Feisol are superior choices. Equal performers to be sure though. The ONLY downsides with this tripod I see (if you are purchasing as your primary tripod system) is the lack of a (smaller diameter) removable spider to swap out plates (bowl or flat), lack of a leveling bubble, and that there is no possibility of adding a column if you need a little more reach. However, this is not my primary tripod - it has a specific purpose, and so those seeming deficiencies are, for me, irrelevant. The tripod is PERFECT. Plus you get three different tripod feet and a protective bag. I currently hijj match it with an Acratech pan & tilt head (or Acratech GXP ball head) and a Leofoto LB-60. I also picked up some linger (5”) Leofoto spikes for work in/near water and soft soils. It is perfect. Like the RC-5570 the leg locks are fantastic that only require a quarter turn (and are grippy even in inclement weather), the tripod is completely modular so legs and locks can be replaced if ever needed, you can unscrew the locks to grease the threads for added water protection, and of course the feet it comes with include rubber grommet seals so seal out the water well from the bottom. Combined my setup is just over 5-lbs and at 22” folded up is not cumbersome to attach to your bag. The legs are quite beefy (like a Benro Mammoth) so it’s not as compact as some travel/backcountry tripods but, again, it is not cumbersome. I usually put at least one leg in the side pocket of my camera backpack and lash it down - it stays put. I absolutely LOVE this tripod system. Spend the money if you want for the big brand names or get AT LEAST 95% of their performance at half the cost.. Both of my Robus tripods will serve me well for YEARS. Best value for sure. But do consider that the weight capacity is 55 lbs so in order to find the right tripod head or leveling base, just consider their weight capacities- you will likely lose a little so just make sure you can live with whatever weight capacity the one you consider will have. I lost a touch with the acratec heads and the leveler but can totally live with it. 5 stars for the price and the tripod overall! It’s a beast! Bravo, Robus! Bravo!

Really solid

Really like the Robus RCC-5560. Very sturdy and the right balance of folded length, no center column for stability, minimum and maximum height capabilities. Added a leveling base and works well with a gimbal with large mirrorless and 600mm lens.

What is the diameter of the spider? I'm wondering if my RRS BH-55 will fit without interfering with the leg locks, or if the 5558 legs would be a better fit.
Asked by: Curtis
The platform measures 61.4mm / 2.41". We tested it with the RRS BH55 and unfortunately, the leg lock does bump into the BH55 at its widest leg angle
