I am accustomed to many thousands of images with little battery use on my DSLR, is it typical for mirrorless cameras to have such short battery life?
Mirrorless cameras have poor battery life compared with DSLR cameras, although this a bit lower than average for mirrorless cameras--the Sony A7R IV gets 670 shots per charge.

Sigma fp L Mirrorless Camera focuses very quickly, I have not perceived any delay in regular use. There is some delay when the subject has no contrast for example a white smooth wall or in low light. The delay will depend on many factors for example how low the available light it.
