If you're shooting mobile video on your Android device and want better audio than what your phone provides, the Rode VideoMic Me-C is worth your consideration. This is a shotgun mic that plugs right into your compatible smartphone or tablet via its USB-C connection.
The mic focuses the audio capture on what's directly in front of the capsule thanks to the directional polar pattern. It's primarily intended for use with USB-C-enabled devices, though it does offer a 3.5mm TRS jack, which can be used for monitoring or for backup analog recording, provided you've plugged in the mic to a USB-C port. Even though the mic can mount directly on top of your USB port, it comes with a dedicated mic clip, should you rather use it, as well as a furry windscreen for achieving a better sound in windy conditions.

RODE VIDEOMIC ME-C Reviews
Good with minor flaw
It's a great product for those without a headphone jack, had to upgrade when I upgraded my phone. Audio quality is good, sometimes with the S23 Ultra Directors View recording the audio cuts out, but can deal with that in post for the most part. There are 2 minor flaws, the usb-c stick out is not long enough to work with my phone case, and I won't shoot without the case on as I'm usually in rough terrain, so I had to modify my phone case for it to work. The second flaw is because I'm moving a lot while recording, the mic sometimes falls out and the piece used to hold the mic in also doesn't work with my case. So I am able to remedy this with a couple Rubber bands. Overall pleased but could use some improvements.
Much Clearer Than the Phone Mic
As good as the mic in my Pixel 5 is, this gives a much clearer, more targeted signal and records well using the RDE Reporter app. I mean, it doesn't have the full breadth and punch of a VideoMic NTG or an SM58, but for the size and weight it gets the job done. Stays in the USB-C jack without wobbling or falling out. Nice dead mouse windscreen, too.
Perfect for phone videos
Exactly what I needed.
Better than I thought it would be.
I bought this as a gift, but I might buy one for myself. I don't use my phone for video though so I have to figure out a different reason to get one for myself. The sound quality is up to par with professional shotgun mics that I own for my professional video shoots. The microphone has a great pickup pattern and avoids picking up a lot of outside noise or street noise. The app that you can download is very useful as well. I'm glad I bought it as a gift because it was a hit.
Excelente sonido
Luego de probarlo en numerosas situaciones puedo decir que es un excelente micrfono. Muy buen sonido.
Solid mic for price point and size
This is a good product for the category of phone-attached microphones. Audio quality isn't amazing, but it is an under-$100 microphone.
Very useful
Works great
Good but missing a silly feature
I recently received this unit. A friend and I took it for a test drive in the food court of a local mall. It definitely improves the phone's audio pick-up at short range. It's hoped Rode's engineers will work to extend its directional range. My gripe is the omission of a foam windscreen, which would cost Rode almost nothing. It's not even available as an accessory. They supply an oversized dead-cat attachment, which can look ridiculous on the side of a smartphone. I had to search for a third party to obtain a foam windscreen.
