The latest firmware enables "Astrotracer Type 3" for the PENTAX K-3 Mark III. Works without the GPS module. However, best only for long lenses, not wide angle lenses.

Will there be cropping with DA lenses?

Will there be cropping with DA lenses?
Asked by: chris
Pentax DA lenses have an image circle size tailored to the APS-C image sensor size, which is smaller -- about 43% of the area -- than the full-frame image sensor size. This camera has an APS-C image sensor. So no, it won't be cropped with DA lenses; it has the image size intended for DA lenses. Now if you use a full-frame lens on it, then yes, that would be cropped -- 1.5 crop factor -- as expected, just like all of Pentax's previous APS-C DSLRs. That said, you would still use the 1.5 crop factor on any lens, DA or otherwise, to know what the lens' field of view will be on this camera. For example, a 50mm lens, whether DA or full-frame, will have the field of view on this camera that a 75mm lens has on full-frame cameras.

Are my lenses from my K-5 compatible with the K-3?
Asked by: SCOTT
Yes, the K-3 iii should be compatible with every K-mount lens ever made, going all the way back to the very first K-mount lenses made in 1975. If a lens works on your K-5, it should work on the K-3 iii. As with all previous Pentax DSLRs, there is a special step to get a meter reading with old lenses that don't have an "A" setting on their aperture ring. Most of these lenses are 1970s & 80s vintage. Apparently the K-3 iii has even better compatibility with those old lenses than previous Pentax DSLRS.
