Impact Large Magnet With 3/8 16 Stud Overview

The Large Magnet Grip Mount with 3/8"-16 Stud from Impact is the ideal way to mount light fixtures, grip gear, and camera heads onto a car or any metal surface where you'd like to position your equipment. This magnetic mount features an industry-standard 3/8"-16 mounting stud to hold whatever gear or fixtures are needed to get that incredible motion shot.

The MGM-100 is outfitted with powerful rare-earth magnets that have a pull force of up to 100 lb, so grip gear, camera mounts, and other gear will be secure and won't slip out of place when shooting the action while driving, boating, or snowmobiling. The 5.3" diameter base features a rubber coating that adds traction and resists scratching or damaging the surface it's mounted on.

The MGM-100 will securely hold a camera or grip accessories, and multiple mounts may be used together for larger setups. As a car mount, there are endless possibilities of light and camera placement for adding dramatic, stunning driving sequences to a video.

Wow... This magnet is insanely powerful! If you look at my pictures I provided in this review, there are also instructions how to use this product using common sense in physics and how to deal with it when removing this monster off a flat metal surface. It is claimed to hold 100 pounds, which I don't need to try such thing, BUT, again, before you go crazy with it, how you load the weight, especially heavy loads, it will matter! The same item or load can feel lighter or heavier, depending on the MOUNT you choose and how far it will stick out from the actual base. A little common sense and a small basic knowledge in physics is your best friend on this. I also love the fact that it has a 3/8 thread, obviously. Again, physics... A 1/4-20 for what this magnet supports, it wouldn't do... As an example, I loaded a rather large item such as a Genaray SSL MiniB LED light fixture. Since the SSL's lollipop mount would be one of the most unfriendly loads you can throw at this magnet, as for being a very long mount and extends so far from the magnet's base, it will make the load feel like 20 times the stress. Trust me, it does. So, something that weighs 3 lbs, depending how you hang it, will feel like a 60 pound load. What you will want to do is to keep whatever load you plan to have on this magnet as low gravity as possible, meaning, the shorter the adapter you use, the better and more efficient and SAFE it will be. This way, you'll be able to safely mount some pretty heavy things. Choose a low gravity mount (as close as possible to the magnet's base). You can use a 3/8 baby pin, or a powerful and expensive ball mount. Or, that's what I would recommend for heavy loads. If you're using an action camera, a small LED light, then, nothing to worry. The rubber finish is great! It will NOT scratch any surface, particularly Important when utilizing this item at someone's property, office or Real Estate property. To remove it as easily as possible: please see my pictures included here. The also have text info on them. Conclusion: Strong, doesn't scratch surfaces and it's a large surface magnet. Strong magnet, sturdy magnet

Really strong, sturdy magnet. It says up to 100lbs and which seems accurate to me. I can see this handy in a variety of situations. I took pictures of it attached to a refrigerator for an example. This would be great for a backlight in a small room or kitchen. I used just a small light I had on hand. I added a " male to 3/8" female screw adapter and it attached very easily. But I can see using it with a much bigger light fixture. As long as the metal surface was appropriate. It really is strong. It would also be a great mount for a small camera or light on a car, or other vehicle. Especially because it has a nice rubber coating to prevent any scratching. This makes mounting to a car less risky. Overall this magnet mount is very well made and strong. I see it being a nice addition to my grip and mounting gear for rigging a small camera and a great way to hide a light without needing a stand.
