Sony GTZ380 Overview

The Sony VPL-GTZ380 10,000-Lumen 4K DCI-P3 Laser SXRD Projector displays native 4K resolution with no upscaling or pixel shifting used in many other 4K projectors. Featuring 10,000 lumens, a 3-laser light source, and the highly accurate 3x SXRD LCoS color panel, the GTZ380 projector is ideal for large-scale and multi-projector setups in showrooms, museums, planetariums, higher education, and more. Sony's X1 Ultimate video processing and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut make this a great option for hyper-realistic simulation and training applications as well.

Native 4K Resolution
The VP-GTZ380 precisely displays true 4K 120 Hz content. There are no upscaling or pixel shift tricks used to reproduce over 8 million pixels on screen at full frame rates. The finest details will be crisp and clear even when your audience is closer to the screen in environments like lobbies, galleries, and showrooms.
10,000 Lumens with 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut
This projector utilizes a 10,000-lumen, 3-channel laser light source to provide wide color gamut without sacrificing brightness. A high-intensity blue laser activates the phosphor light source for wide gamut white light, while additional balanced red and blue laser light sources negate the need for a light-sapping color filter. The result is effective brightness and projected images with accurate color and realism even in well-lit spaces.
3x SXRD Color Panel
To overcome the pitfalls of more common LCD and DLP color technology, Sony employs the Silicon X-tal Reflective Display or SXRD. This is a Sony proprietary version of LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology. Like transmissive LCD, this system uses liquid crystal to control the flow of light for each pixel. As with DLP chips, the light reflects off a mirrored surface toward the screen. Where light passes through the transmissive LCD layer once, light must pass through the LCoS LCD layer twice, which makes for higher contrast. This combination of transmissive and reflective technology also eliminates the screen-door effect of LCD and the rainbow effect of DLP technology. The end result is bright whites, rich colors, and deep blacks.
X1 Ultimate for Projector
X1 Ultimate for projector takes Sony's acclaimed BRAVIA TV video processing and optimizes it for projection. This enables fast data processing with real-time enhancement for each object onscreen. Hundreds of objects are identified and their resolution is individually enhanced to give a picture of exceptional accuracy and detail. The Dynamic HDR Enhancer powered by X1 processes HDR content scene by scene for optimal control over light and dark. Additionally, Sony uses dual database processing; one database is used to clean the picture, reducing on-screen noise, and the other is used to upscale the resolution, improving clarity. These two powerful image improvement databases work together, dynamically improving pixels in real time. The result is true high dynamic range imagery, with accurate texture, color, contrast, and realism.
Z-Phosphor Laser Light
The VPL-GTZ380 uses an ultra-pure and reliable Z-Phosphor laser light source. This Sony-developed laser light source lets you enjoy perfectly clear 4K pictures at optimal brightness for up to 20,000 uninterrupted hours. You will never have to change a lamp, and overall maintenance is much lower than non-laser projectors.
Interchangeable Lenses (Sold Separately)
Sony offers short- and standard-throw lenses for this projector. The VPLL-Z800 short-throw lens provides a 0.80-1.02:1 throw ratio. The standard-throw VPLL-Z8014 has a throw ratio of 1.40-2.73:1.

Sony GTZ380 Reviews

Absolutely Flawless

If you have ever viewed the VPL-VW5000ES & thought that machine had a brilliant picture at 5,000 lumens, the purely stunning display chip combined with the newest laser lamp that puts out a whopping 10,000 lumens makes the 5000ES model look like a Triniton from the 1980’s! I recently upgraded from the 5000ES to the GTZ380 in my “man cave” with a 165” SI gray slate 1.3 gain screen. If the blacks are brightness of the 5,000 had an amazing image, the dual data/motion flow chipsets and double the lumens combined make for a viewing experience that’s so immersive that only in the most gorgeous scenes from a solid, full HDR 4K source do you sit back and both admire the engineering behind this beyond words projector’s imagining-that you chuckle at how much you spent to be so fortunate to buy one. Hands down, there is no imagination left to better what already seems that the human eyes can’t possibly see anything technologically “better”. After this machine was conceived, I’d have to think that engineers are being laid off- or have abandoned any future development as there is no possibility of any picture quality improvement beyond this unit. Has to be the end of the line for any sort of television or movie watching device innovation- no way anything could ever top this picture quality and brightness that’s so full of color and absolutely zero stutter. I can now rest easy, my wife can’t be upset at my A/V “addiction”, as this is the last TV/Projector I will ever need or purchase. To spin a quote from the movie Field of Dreams “Is this heaven?....no, this is Sony”!

If I run this off of 240V, what sort of wall plug does it take?

The Sony VPL-GTZ380 10,000-Lumen 4K DCI-P3 Laser SXRD Projector (No Lens), BH # SOVPLGTZ380, includes a North American configured AC wall outlet plug connector. You may need an adapter to use with your local 240 VAC wall outlet configuration.
