Poor Fit-And-Finish

I have used more than ten rolls of Film For Classics to date, mostly HP5+ but a variety of others as well, and in my opinion the quality is just so-so, especially for the high price you pay. It is not the film, that is great, it's the way it's packaged for 127 format. FFC is taking good quality film, presumably in large sizes and cutting it to width and length, and wrapping it in their own backing paper on plastic spools. I've had multiple issues pretty consistently with the results. In no particular order: the backing paper is coarse and can scratch the emulsion; the backing paper lacks friction and is thick and springy, making these rolls prone to uncoiling violently and ruining the roll with scratches and leaks if you don't keep a very tight grip while opening, loading, and unloading them; the film is cut jaggedly with edges that constantly snag my fabric gloves while handling it, and also seems to snag in my Patterson reels while loading for development; the film often has issues like bent-over corners pressed flat that create lumps and catch on things inside the camera and in development reels and film scanning holders. I've also had multiple rolls with about half of the first frame already partially exposed, and obvious film flatness issues in cameras that I've never had problems using any other film in; see photos for examples. I'm no amateur with 127 and these aren't user errors, they're defects with the FFC products. I cut and spool my own using a FCK.127 MKIII cutter to trim down 120, and I get great results albeit at the cost of extra time (I really don't know how FFC is producing such rough edges; are they using a cutter that tears or shears instead of slicing?) I also think Rerapan 400 is much better manufactured (and the film itself is pretty great too). On the plus side, the Film For Classics spools and canisters are fine, and also on the plus side, Film For Classics is helping keep 127 alive, which I'm a big fan of. But for the price, I can't justify choosing it over Rerapan or cutting and spooling my own.
