Vienna Symphonic Library Brass Overview

Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Brass Full Library is a virtual instrument with a library that accurately captures the sound and expressiveness of eight brass solo instruments and nine brass ensembles. Expertly performed by Vienna's top-notch players, the instruments were recorded at Synchron Stage A Vienna with every nuanced detail using nine phase-controlled microphone setups. The included Synchron Player provides production-ready presets for mixing your brass sounds in stereo, 5.1 surround, and even 9.1 Auro 3D (or any other immersive audio format such as Dolby Atmos)—right out of the box.

Solo instruments include trumpets 1 and 2, horns 1 and 2, a tenor trombone, a bass trombone, a cimbasso, and a bass tuba. Ensembles include trumpet ensembles with 4 and 6 players, horn ensembles with 6 and 12 players, a tenor trombone ensemble with 4 players, a trombone ensemble with 9 players, a low-brass ensemble with 4 bass trombones and one bass tuba, a low-brass ensemble with 5 players and one contrabass tuba, and a giant tutti brass ensemble with 6 trumpets, 12 horns, 9 tenor/bass trombones, and one tuba.

Synchron Brass Full Library offers a host of detailed articulations and phrases to help you create coherent and compelling performances with ease. Dynamic levels of the entire sample database were painstakingly balanced and matched for seamless transitions from one articulation to another, perfectly matching release samples for smooth velocity crossfades. The result elevates these brass solo instruments and ensembles to the next level of dynamic expressivity and musicality needed for authentic musical performances and dramatic scoring.

Features like Timbre Adjust, integrated time-stretching, and the Synchron Player's release sample technology immensely increase the library's flexibility and expressive possibilities, allowing you to quickly manipulate samples in real-time to create lively, emotional, and captivating performances.

Note:
Software requires a ViennaKey USB protection device or other USB eLicenser, if one is not already on the system (available separately).

Timbre Adjust for Subtle Volume and Timbre Variations
  • As an alternative and addition to velocity crossfade, the Synchron Player offers the Timbre Adjust feature, assigned to CC8 by default. Brass solo instruments are capable of creating subtle volume and timbre variations, and using this intelligent filter lets you apply dynamic changes while staying in one velocity layer. It can also be used to create variants of articulations that have only one velocity layer (such as sforzatissimo) or to prevent velocity crossfade artifacts that may occur with brass solo instruments.
9 Microphone Positions with Mix-Ready Presets
To capture the spectacular ambience of Stage A Synchron Stage, engineers employed nine separate phase-coherent microphone configurations.
In addition to the close, mid, Decca tree and surround microphones, the solo horns were also recorded with a condenser mic placed behind the musician as well as a ribbon room mic.
A host of reconfigured mixer presets are available to provide a wide variety of spatial and tonal characteristics.
The main surround microphone settings may also be used instead of the main stereo room mics in order to achieve a wider and more ambient mix. Blending surround signals with the other microphone signals creates a denser, more lush overall sound, even in stereo applications.
