Designed for close-up photography, the MF12 Macro Flash 2-Light Kit from Godox makes macro photography easy. The flash heads enable you to shoot beautiful and sharp photos of small subjects such as plants, animals, and insects at an extremely close distance. The MF12 flash heads can be mounted on the included flash stands and feature adjustable heads for quick positioning. For added versatility, the flashes can be mounted directly to a lens via the included adapter rings and mounting ring that lets you mount up to six MF12 flash heads. Also included is an Extreme Close-Up Positioning Adapter with a specially designed slope structure that lets you angle the flash heads inwards toward the lens for extreme close-up photography. For on and off camera use, the flash heads require a separately purchased transmitter and are compatible with the Godox XPro, X1, X2, and other select wireless flash triggers for main brand cameras such as Nikon, Sony, Canon, FUJIFIM, Olympus, and Panasonic.

Has anyone considered or purchased a 3rd flash for this kit? My theory is a 3rd flash will make the light bigger and therefore softer. Can anyone confirm or reject this theory?
Adding an additional flash won't make the light larger -the subject will see all of the flashes as individual light sources unless you fire them through the same diffuser. It will lower the flash duration though, making it easier to freeze motion. In most cases you won't need the shorter flash duration though.

Can one of the macro flashes be triggered with a sync cord attached to the camera which in turn triggers the other macro flashes wirelessly?
The Godox MF12 cannot connect using a sync cable. The triggering is limited to a Godox X series transmitter on the camera or a Godox speedlight with a X series transmitter built in.
