Manfrotto Fast III Overview

The black Manfrotto Advanced Fast III Backpack is an all-in-one solution with an 18.5L capacity for carrying a DSLR or mirrorless camera with an attached lens. It also holds additional lenses and accessories with room for personal items including a laptop and tablet. This third gen bag gets an update to their M-Guard protection system for your delicate camera gear with a customizable interior, with a 70/30 split between photo and personal items and a tech sleeve to make this the ideal bag for travel.

This bag has an excellent design. I replaced my PD Everyday Backpack with this, due mainly to the terrible interior divider system on the PD bag, and the annoying sternum strap.) Pros and cons in comparison… Pros for this Manfrotto + The top pocket can be divided from the bottom portion effectively. That’s where I keep basic personal items. Little things fall through in the PD. Super annoying. + The little, upper side pockets are great. + Much better divider system. + While smaller and lighter than the PD bag it seems to hold just as much because it’s a smarter design. Cons - Doesn’t compete with the PD backpack for build quality, but that’s reflected in price. - No waist strap - No side handles - Boring aesthetics I’d like to see a “pro” version of this with weatherproof zippers, more robust materials, and a better back pad with a basic, removable waist strap. Also a few other V2 design tweaks and it would be ultimate. (For instance I don’t need to open the whole bottom portion. Stick with just the side flaps, then add another Velcro surface on the inside to better secure dividers. Also, while the divider separating the top pocket is great I’d like more flexibility with it. For instance folding up 1/3 of either side - then I’d have length to slip my small tripod inside, while still having a secure divider for my junk on the other 2/3 of the top compartment).

Great sized backpack! It holds my 15" inch MacBook Pro. I would say that you could easily hold a Sony a7iii body with a grip, a 70-200 f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8 and a 16-35mm f2.8 inside of this backpack too. Does everything I need it to and more, highly recommend and it's not bulky at all! Perfect size for a camera backpack.

I have a Nikon z7 and a 24-70 f/4. I might ...

I have a Nikon z7 and a 24-70 f/4. I might occasionally carry a second lens, which I don't own yet, the 14-24 or 14-30. In addition, I am hoping to have room for a light raincoat or even a sweatshirt, a waterbottle, snacks, etc. Do you think this would all fit in this bag? I'm having a lot of trouble finding a bag that has enough room for the personal items, a small camera area for just a small mirrorless kit, but isn't huge/tall (I'm 5'2).

What's the difference between this bag, and the Gen 2 version?? Just curious, as I love the Gen 2 that I have (which was discontinued)... but looking through it looks exactly the same... it's a good bag either way! especially when it was on sale for $60.

The dividers in Gen 3 have improved shock absorption. Will protect your gear better.
