Adesso T50 Reviews

Works Well Enough

I'm of the opinion that you need a wireless trackball about as much as you need a remote-control bookcase, but I've found they can be handy for use with a laptop, especially since you don't need to find a space for the laptop next to a wide-enough flat area for a wireless mouse. The Adesso iMouse T50 is a four-button trackball in a pattern popularized by Kensington, with a conventional scroll wheel. Below this is a pair of arrow keys which offer control of pointer speed right there on the base. And if you don't like having a base that slopes conveniently toward you, there's a pair of fold-out legs like keyboards have, only in front. Using them will make the trackball lie flat, only more like a raised platform...if that's what you want. Unlike certain other products in this category, it does NOT offer a choice between the included USB wireless receiver and Bluetooth connectivity if your device has it. Adesso offers a driver download that provides control of all four button functions, as well as the arrow keys and what happens when you press the scroll wheel, with a choice of 32 functions for each (including eight multimedia player functions). As with other applications of this type, you can assign any of these anywhere, and even have nine left-click buttons if you want. But it has no provision for simultaneous button-press (which I use for double-click whenever it's available), so I assign double-click to the scrollwheel. But cursor (pointer) speed-control isn't so great. It's adjustable only in 100-dpi increments, so I can only find one speed I can use, and maybe one other that's acceptable. Even though your preferences may differ from mine, you'll likely have a similar problem. So those arrow keys aren't such a great feature after all. The scroll wheel lights up in different colors to show what cursor speed you've selected, and the driver gives you full control over the colors displayed. But it only lights up when an arrow key is pressed, and then only for 30 seconds, so that's not such a great feature either. The T50 is quite portable though, with storage space for the USB receiver in the battery compartment, and the ball won't fall out while transporting it. So if you think you need one for use with your laptop, it'll work well enough.

Great for ergonomics

This is a great trackball. I use it between the two halves of a Kinesis Freestyle Pro split keyboard to reduce horizontal arm movement. The front has legs which can be raised to create a flat profile (but not that it sits fairly high in this orientation). Also note that there is no horizontal scroll capability on the scroll wheel if that's important to you. For me, these aren't issues and the huge trackball and click buttons make it very easy to use.
