This was just a matter of "looks" for me. I don,t care for the small oddly shaped lens hood that the 40 and 50mm G comes with, so I bought this one. I use it mainly for a bump guard for the lens anyway. It is very nicely made and looks great IMO.

This hood works on all three of the 24, 40, and 50 lenses. I have the 24 and 50 with a preference for the style of this hood versus the one included with the 50.

Is there any lens cap with this hood on? Included 49mm lens cap is too small.

Unfortunately, there is no lens cap that will fit the ALC-SH165 lens hood's opening.

Is this interchangeable with the lens hood of G-Lens 50mm f2.5 of the same trilogy?

The Sony ALC-SH165 Lens Hood for FE 24mm f/2.8 G Lens is not compatible with the Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens. For this lens you need the Sony ALC-SH166 Lens Hood for FE 40mm f/2.5 G Lens and FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens. Here is the link: https://bhpho.to/3b9wmmT

Are you sure this lens hood doesn't fit on 50 2.5 g? They have the same size/filter thread. I thought they have the same hood mount too. Their lens hoods are ugly so I want to get this one and a 50 2.5g

It fits--- but the primary consideration is that the wider angle of view for the 24mm hood is that it is less effective on a 40mm lens.
