Is there software to enable printing from a desktop computer?
It's not possible to print directly from a desktop computer. However, it's possible to print from a tablet. You can connect the tablet to a desktop computer and drag files over to the tablet for opening and printing from the Instax app. I've done this with an inexpensive Android tablet connected to my Windows PC.

Can you print a square format pic and trim off the extra or does the app stretch/crop or force a rectangular format?
One should not cut Instax Film from the FUJIFILM INSTAX Link Wide Smartphone Printer (Mocha Gray). There are chemicals in the Instax Film and cutting will cause deterioration to the print. So, while you can print square, I would not cut off the excess.

The xh2s has the instax printer option but I can't get it to connect. Is there a special password other than 1111 or does it not work like it does with xs10?
You cannot print directly from the camera to this printer. Only the X-S10 can print directly. To print directly you'll need the SP-1, SP-2 or SP-3 (older models) printer.

Fuji does not state the actual process but since the film is light sensitive, they are either using a laser or an LCD screen to expose the film.
