Pulsar Audio Echorec Magnetic Disk Delay Plug-In (Download)
Key Features
  • Emulates Three Binson Echorec Units
  • Famous Echo Sounds of the '70s
  • Authentic Tube Sound
  • Magnetic Field Recreation
Tap into '70s echo sounds made famous by the likes of Pink Floyd and Jimmy Page with Pulsar Audio Echorec, a plug-in that faithfully emulates three vintage Binson Echorec magnetic disk delay units in varying conditions. Like the originals, Pulsar's Echorec imparts the warmth and texture of an all-tube input section as well as the complex artifacts of magnetic saturation. Unlike analog Echorecs, this digital equivalent allows adjustable motor speed and three tempo modes—manual, sync (to the host session's BPM), and tap—for expanded versatility.

Another special feature of the Pulsar Audio Echorec is its Off mode, which delivers all the tonal character of the Echorec without any delay. Use it to add immediate old-school vibe to vocals, guitars, and rhythm section instruments like bass and drums. A twist of the Stereo Drift knob creates wide stereo echo effects by detuning the delays without shifting the delay time. Since it is compatible with AAX, Audio Units, VST2, and VST3 plug-in formats, Pulsar's Echorec can be used in most DAWs on macOS/Windows systems.

Emulation of Binson Echorec 2
Vintage Echorec devices are known for their saturation, self-oscillation, and oversound, all shaping the music produced in the '70s. They are also, however, known to be fragile and difficult to maintain. Three different units, in different conditions, have been precisely modeled, to have all sounds from the cleanest magnetic delay to those with the most grunge.

Enhancing the Original
The Pulsar Echorec plug-in gives you a faithful emulation of this legendary echo unit along with many workflow improvements, such as the ability to change the motor speed (and so the delay time) in real time, or sync it to any tempo including a tapped tempo.
Authentic Tube Sound
The exact sound of the all-tube input section of the Binson Echorec has been precisely replicated. Special attention was paid to the modeling of pre-emphasis filters.
Magnetic Field Recreation
Any sound going through a magnetic device is modified in a particular way. Complex processes in the Echorec disk involving magnetic saturation and hysteresis have been precisely modeled.
Stereo Drift
As an improvement to the original hardware design, Pulsar added the possibility of slightly detuning the left and right channels. The result is a large stereo echo with precisely placed repetitions.
Creative Modulations
Sound engineers always have their tricks. One of the coolest with the Echorec is the ability to slow the disk down with a finger, resulting in creative pitch modulation or wow and flutter effects on the delayed signal.
Three States of Wear
Any Binson unit found nowadays has traveled 50 years through time. Some are in mint condition, and some are used. During measurements, Pulsar found that each unit had a special color, and some are really nice apart from the unit condition. So they selected the three units they liked the most.
Off Mode
Some effects just sound incredibly good, even when they're not supposed to affect the sound at all. The Binson Echorec is one of these. So, Pulsar carefully designed an Off mode that reproduces the color and grit of the delayed signal, without any delay.
