Edwal EDHC34 overview

  • 1Description

Edwal Hypo Check tests your fix solution for exhaustion due to silver saturation.

One or two drops will test the fixer and, if the fixers still OK, no harm has been done to the bath.

If the addition of Hypo-Chek produces a cloudy precipitate, the bath is exhausted and the fixer should be discarded.

A 3/4 oz. bottle provides about 800 tests.

Hypo Check (Liquid) - 1 Oz. is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Allows you to focus on printing Perfect product. I purchased a 3/4 oz bottle around 2005 when I was in college. I used it for checking my fix after developing my film at my apartment. I would then take my film to print in the school's darkroom. They used this there as well. I took two semesters of black and white darkroom photography and I developed a decent amount of my own film between then and now (2015). I haven't been going steady, but with only having to use two drops, I've still got my original bottle and I've been printing and developing quite a bit over the last year and a half. I just recently purchased a new bottle, and I'm sure it'll last a while as well. Don't let the price dissuade you. It's definitely worth it. When I say it allows you to focus on printing, I mean that you don't need to keep track of how many sheets of paper or rolls/sheets of film you've used. You just keep going and every so often, put in two drops to see if the drops turn white. After 10 years, it still works properly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New bottle design problem This stuff is absolutely essential in my lab, but the last time I purchased it, the bottle design had changed. It is not what is pictured for this product. The liquid squeezes out too rapidly, and the cap snaps instead of screws on (which means it goes missing). As a result, a bottle that normally lasts for years lasted less than three months. I hope this is not a clever way to sell more product. If it were just me using it, I would learn, but the design is less than ideal for a lab full of intro students. Please bring the pictured bottle back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff I try to make my fixer stretch as long as possible for cost reasons. In the past I would find its exhaustion point by looking at dried processed film and seeing a brown not quite fixed stripe down the middle of the film lengthwise. Then I would have to reload it on the reel and re-fix it with new fixer and rewash it. A couple drops of this stuff tells me the fixer is worn out BEFORE I waste a lot of time finding out the hard way. This stuff perfectly demonstrates if your fixer is good before you wreck your film and paper with bad fixer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Darkroom Staple A dependable, long lasting solution, assuring the freshness of the fixing bath.Hypo Check has become an integral part of my darkroom chemistry. While I might intuit accurately that the fixer has become exhausted, its action communicates the information immediately by turning cloudy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fix with confidence! So you put a little drop of this in your fixer. If you don't see anything, your fixer is good, but if you see a little white or whitish yellow swirl? Time to change your fixer! It's easy to use. I like to know I am not agitating my tank or tray for no good reason. :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful product! Very easy to use. With just two drops can check the status of the fixer without wasting time (in the event that the chemical has been in poor condition and needed to have to fix it again) or unnecessary chemicals refilling

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for me Tested my Ilford Rapid Fixer with this product and it worked as described. It will also last forever, considering how little it used to check, and will end up saving you a fortune on fixer. Can't complain about that.
