Compass doesn't work

Just received mine and the compass isn't anywhere in the neighborhood of being accurate. I turn it every which way and it doesn't reorient itself to point North. I gave it two stars for being a nice-looking, well-built piece with a functioning bubble level, but that's only getting half the job done.
