SONARWORKS SoundID Overview

Designed to work primarily with SoundID Reference speaker calibration software, the SONARWORKS SoundID Reference Measurement Microphone is used to measure the frequency response of your room and speakers, capturing the acoustic characteristics of your listening environment and allowing the separately available software to correct unwanted sonic inaccuracies in your monitoring system.

The microphone features a small-diaphragm, electret condenser capsule with an omnidirectional polar pattern, and each mic is individually calibrated, ensuring a flat frequency response with optimal precision. It is supplied with a 0° on-axis calibration file for use in third-party applications, a 30° off-axis calibration file for use in SONARWORKS SoundID Reference software, and a 21-day trial version of SoundID Reference.

The missing piece to the puzzle

I used a different mic thinking it was ok to use for calibration because it was omni directional with Sonarworks. After recalibrating with the ID reference mic, there was no comparison in the eq spectrum precision this mic delivers. I can now trust my mixes to translate everywhere after using this product. Thank you B&H for making the process simple and smooth.

Essential even in every studio

Most studios, even with acoustic treatment, will have inconsistencies within the frequency domain caused by furniture reflection, stubborn low-frequency room modes and, in the case of a multichannel setup, slight delays and phase differences between the speakers. Sonarworks corrects for all of it, and allows for plenty of customization according to the engineer's listening preference. The calibration takes about 20min for a stereo set, but the difference is night and day. It will not replace acoustic treatment, but it surely is a big cherry on the cake. Mixes translate more easily, and I don't spend hours checking if a particular resonance or frequency build-up is caused by the room/speakers or by the mix itself.
