I used these with HomeKit at first and thought they were pretty basic, but didn't realize how they're designed to be used with the proper HUE app/hub and hue bulbs, when set up with HUE (instead of HomeKit) the top button is ON/OFF toggle, the middle buttons are brighter/dimmer for whatever state all the bulbs that are on are in, and the bottom button you can configure up to 5 scenes to cycle through with each tap. We have different rooms with varying scenes we like - e.g. the built in 'dim' and 'night light' modes are great, we augmented them with different bulbs on/off and combos of brightnesses of different bulbs. Once you set up your scenes in the HUE app, you can go into the scene and choose to share the scene with HomeKit still, so you're not out features or automations if you use HomeKit AND Hue at the same time. Having the scenes sent to HomeKit allows you to get the scenes in the home app on iphone/ipad/apple watch etc. and lets you ask siri to use them. Back to the remote - this one just works, and well. even if your WIFI goes down, because it works with the hue hub directly there's no issue. These are GREAT, and as of august of 2021 have been extremely constrained in supply. Get more than one if you can.
