Leofoto BV-1R Reviews

Good quality, not quite big enough for large spotting scope

I bought several tripod heads for use with a larger size Kowa 883 spotting scope. The quality was really good on this one, particularly the ARCA plate. Everything was machined really well. The only issue was just that the scope was just too heavy so the tilt wasn't giving enough resistance. This would probably work really well though with something lighter weight. I ended up getting the Sirui VA-5 head, which gave a lot more resistance when tilting, but maybe slightly less quality.

Works well for smaller systems

Purchased this for lightweight work for occasional video use with my M4/3 system. It does that job well and is very lightweight itself, so it suits my needs perfectly. Also seems to be very well made, although I haven't used it extensively yet.

Does it offer true fluid damping in the pan ...

Does it offer true fluid damping in the pan direction, or just a pivot with a lock screw?
Asked by: Michael
The Leofoto Mini Fluid Head (B&H# LEBV1R) offers a friction-drag based system in particular (rather than a fluid-based drag system) albeit with what is generically classified as fluid movement. While this does place it in the fluid head category, it does not have a fluid cartridge associated with the pan axis, which was the subject of your question. Please note, however, that it is also not just a simple pivot with a lock screw. Rather, panning movement is friction-damped.
