This 55mm Collapsible Lens Hood from B+W is made of high-grade rubber which in its collapsed state protrudes only a short distance. The lens hood is an essential accessory for better pictures and should always be used to prevent flare. As well as shielding stray light, this lens hood also provide effective physical protection of the delicate front lens against raindrops, accidental contact and from accidental knocks and bangs. B+W Collapsible Lens Hood Reviews
Collapsible Hood that is lighter and more convenient...
This particular 55mm lens hood works well on a new Sigma lens I picked up recently. And it is actually lighter than the OEM hood. The OEM lens actually interfered a bit with the lens' focus ring when it was installed as intended to be used (i.e. not in its more compact reverse position for packing and travel). The flexible lens hood clears the focus ring of the lens free and clear. When not using I can push the flexible lens back on itself and it retracts very well into a more compact form I've purchased several collapsible lens hoods over the years. All of them have been B+W lens hoods. I almost always use B+W UV filters for lens protection as well. I like B+W's design philosophy and quality. If one his looking for a flexible hood, this is a very good one.
Best Collapsible Lens Hood
I lost my old Nikon lens hood on a trail in Tasmania and I was so heartbroken. I bought it maybe 15 years ago and I used to swap in between my cameras rather than buy another one because I could never find a decent one or one from Nikon. I took a chance and bought two of these with the thought you get what you pay for. The instant I opened the boxes they became the best hood I've used: compact, heavy rubber, easy to collapse, attachment threads are thick and strong and don't loosen (how I lost my old one).
