Faithfully recreating the tonality and feel of the iconic Dumble Steel String Singer in a compact stompbox, the Steel String MKII from Vertex offers versatile boost, overdrive, and EQ shaping. Improving upon the MKI with a 33% smaller footprint and new Jazz/Rock switch for improved low end, the MKII is ideal for clean tones or fat OD stacks.
The Steel String MKII delivers the famous touch sensitivity, fat clean tone, and high-end spank that make the original amp so sought-after (and so expensive), and now in an affordable and pedalboard-friendly design. This pedal also supports optional 18V operation (power supply not included) for increased headroom, and a mechanical true bypass circuit for bypass free of coloration and tone suck. Constructed almost entirely from durable metal, this pedal was designed in California for long-lasting use.
However, when the gain knob exceeds 50%, it begins to get into light overdrive territory and makes for an amazing mid-gain overdrive and a fantastic pedal for stacking into midrange-style overdrives like those of classic TS-type circuits. In addition to being an amazing standalone overdrive, the Steel String can be an effective EQ to balance out other harsher overdrive pedals when stacked, and can smooth some of those unwanted frequencies you may have to dial out for mid and high gain pedals.
