Tentacle Sync E mkII Reviews

Precise and Easy to Use

I’ll be honest, never used time code before. I found the concept intimidating and overwhelming. But these things are easy to operate and incorporate. I bought the Kondor Blue holders that attached to my a7siii cages. Used a cable (not included) that let it jack into the cameras. Changed two settings in my camera, downloaded the app (free), turned them on and these synced perfectly. Not just good, perfectly. I tested and tested and these are highly reliable. It comes with some different color option bands to distinguish which one is which, and made syncing in edit a breeze. I think this may be my favorite audio purchase.

Worked Great after I found a way to make it work, lots of wasted time following their instructions

If you are only using this to get timecode to a field recorder and/or another camera, it's fairly straight forward. However, if you are trying to recording Time Code to your Digital Audio Workstation like I was, the instructions were abysmal and comply. incorrect. None of their sugestions worked. I finally figured out a way to do it, but the process was nothing like what they recommended. I have a Youtube channel centered on Home Recording Studios, and when I demo a Microphone, I would often get drift in my DAW. This is why I ordered the Tentacle Sync. Again, once I figured it out on my own, it did a great job, my lower scoring is due to them having no idea how to really go about this. Would I buy them all over again knowing this, yes, as they do work.

Can I sync a Logic session through UAD Apollo?

Can I sync a Logic session through UAD Apollo?
Asked by: Craig
You can use the Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual Set) (B&H# TETE2MK2) to add a timecode signal to a single audio track. That can be fed into many devices that produce or modify audio, whether that is your computer using a DAW, a camera, or a field recorder. If you are using the Universal Audio Apollo Solo Heritage Edition Desktop 2x4 Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface with SOLO Core Real-Time UAD Processing (B&H# UNAPLSHE) then you will first need to have a means of inputting an audio track into your DAW so that all of the tracks may be read (including the one with the timecode) simultaneously.

Can this unit handle 60 or 120 fps? If not, is there a product that can?
Asked by: Philip
The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generators operate on an international broadcast standard called SMPTE 12, introduced by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. This broadcast standard signal is limited to 30 fps max. However, you can work with divisors of the higher frame rates as the project frame rate. This way synchronization will still work as expected, if timecode is recorded in the higher frame rate formats.

Is it possible to split stereo signal coming from Sync E, so I'd get only timecode in CH1 and use proper shotgun mic for CH2?
Asked by: Maro
The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual Set) do not output a stereo signal, so if your camera has multiple inputs for audio then yes, you could rout the Sync E mkII into one of the inputs and your mic into the other. If your camera only has a single audio input then input you will not be able to use a mic along with the Tentacle Sync E mkII.

Is there a difference in range with this version and the previous version ?
Asked by: Senoga
For now, there won't be any changes in the Bluetooth range of the Tentacle SYNC E MkII compared to the MkI. The functionality will be identical with the previous version. Possibly in future, Tentacle will be able to offer an update that allows a wider range. Currently, the range is around 10-15 meters.

How would this work with 4 cameras shooting various frame rates at once + 6 external audio devices?
Asked by: Ryan
The frame rates of the cameras would have to use a common divisor. Since the SMPTE 12m broadcast standard is limited to 30fps, you need to set the cameras to a multiple of the project frame rate. For example 30fps - 60fps, or 29.97fps - 59.94fps.
