Using the simplest technology—a tube, two mirrors, and a swiveling, tilting base—the Classic 200P Dobsonian Telescope Kit from Sky-Watcher delivers bright views of deep sky objects like nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies. It comes with eyepieces for 48x and 120x magnification and separates into two pieces for easy travel to the best viewing sites. A finderscope helps locate the DSO and the smooth 2" Crayford focuser tightens the view to tack-sharp. John Dobson built his first telescopes in California in the 1960s, using cardboard concrete-form tubes, and sidewalk astronomers have been using Dobs to explore the cosmos ever since.
Sporting the large light bucket users have come to expect from a Dob, the Sky-Watcher Classic 200P 8" Dobsonian Telescope optical tube assembly allows bright, detailed observation of deep sky objects using a simple design. Its large parabolic Borosilicate primary mirror is treated with an aluminum coating that brings its reflectivity to 94%, with a secondary mirror obstruction of just 6% by area. The OTA features a smooth 2" Crayford focuser with an adapter for 1.25" eyepieces, a 9x50 finderscope, and 25mm and 10mm eyepieces.
- 8" (200mm) aperture can resolve dim deep-space objects, like wispy nebulae and galaxies
- Fast f/5.9 focal ratio ensures a wide field of view & maximum light throughput
- 1200mm focal length helps to produce the fast focal ratio and magnification range
- Borosilicate parabolic primary mirror with aluminum coatings that bring the reflectivity to 94%
- 25mm and 10mm Super Kellner eyepieces for 48x and 120x magnification, respectively
- Resolution: 0.57 arcsec (Dawes Limit), 0.69 arcsec (Rayleigh Limit)
- 48mm diameter secondary mirror; Obstruction: 24% by diameter, 6% by area
- Crayford-style is much more precise than the traditional rack-and-pinion
- Tension control system eliminates gears, resulting in zero backlash for tack-sharp focus on dim objects or objects, like binary stars, that are close together
- 2" diameter holder allows the use of larger eyepieces and imaging systems that provide a wide field of view and long eye relief to make viewing dim and small deep-sky objects more comfortable
The 8" Traditional Dobsonian Base is the base for the 200P Dobsonian telescope from Sky-Watcher, also known as the Classic 200P Dobsonian or Traditional 200P Dobsonian. The sturdy rocker box has Teflon bearings for smooth movement and precise slewing. Its proprietary tension control handle locks the optical tube assembly in place once the deep sky subject has been located. The base can be transported and stored separately from the OTA.
