Techart PRO TZG-01 Overview

The Techart PRO Contax G to Nikon Z Autofocus Lens Adapter allows Contax G-Series lenses made for the G1 and G2 autofocus rangefinder cameras to have full autofocus function on Nikon Z cameras. The adapter's brushless motor drive screw operates the focusing mechanism on G lenses and is powered by the camera body. AF-S and AF-C are supported as shooting modes, as well as manual focus.

Made of aircraft-grade aluminum and copper alloy, the ring is lightweight but durable, with precision engineering. Internal black flocking is applied to eliminate any possible reflection of light, and the large lens release tab makes changing lenses easy.

Doesn't work, waste of money

Do not buy this product. I bought this for my Nikon Z8 and the adapter often stops working randomly. It will autofocus just fine for a couple photos then stop focusing entirely. It needs to be turned off then on again to restart the adapter. Then it will quickly fail again. The manual focus knob also never works. It isn't physically coupled to the focusing mechanism, it just tells the motor to turn one way or the other. But moving it at all will stop the adapter from working. I tried contacting Techart 3 separate times but never got any response. Wasted 300 dollars. I bought this through Techart directly so I never got a refund. Putting this review on other sites for awareness to avoid this Techart adapters

50 mm lens mounted with difficulty, and did not work. Bottom of adapter started to heat up; I turned off camera, unmounted lens, and switched to 35 mm lens. After a couple of mounting attempts, things seemed to work! On turning camera on, adapter would move lens in and out, and focus point would turn green and image would be sharp. Then tried 90 mm, and initially it didn't work. Turning on camera caused no lens movement, image would sometimes change focus but still be blurry, and focus point stayed red. Tried a few re-mountings of lens, and at one point things worked: lens moved in and out on camera turning on, and focus point turned green. Then it stopped working - despite my not doing anything to the lens. And the bottom of the adapter started heating up. Worried it could damage the circuitry of the camera, I gave up. Returned it to B&H, which thankfully did not give me grief over it. I think the defect has something to do with the focus drive mechanism, or misalignment of the contacts.
