Canon DR-E6C Overview

Power your Canon EOS R5 C cinema/photo camera using an external power supply with this DR-E6C DC Coupler from Canon. The R5 C photo + cinema video camera in one requires a slightly different power supply method in order to power the video side of the camera when recording footage using high frame rates such as 8K60 RAW.

The coupler allows you to power the camera directly using a compatible power source, but it will only power the high-resolution video side of the camera with the addition of an optional power adapter such as the Canon CA-946 or a professional battery source such as the Anker 26800mAh power bank or a Gold mount or V-mount pack.

I wish this was part of the camera body accessories sold together instead of searching for it separately. But never been happier to have an alternative to changing batteries during event recordings.

Bottom-line: it works and the build-quality is very good... BUT, the only reason for buying this model versus any other LP-E6 dummy battery, is because it can deliver 9 V out (instead of regular 7.9 V) at higher current needed for powering both the lens and camera when shooting 8k60 RAW. I don't plan on it, but bought this anyway just in-case... I power the camera from a D-tap battery, so I also need the Anton-Bauer D-tap to 9V regulator. Thus the total price for externally-powering my R5C is $260. Outrageous. Besides the price, what annoys me is that (unlike any other LP-E6 dummy battery our there), this one has a big common-mode EMI core with 3-loops of the power cable through it, tie-wrapped onto the cable. So the cable from the camera to the battery ends-up with the EMI core, an in-line barrel-connector, plus the 9 V regulator-box all hanging on the cable. It's just ugly, awkward, and waiting for an accidental in-line disconnect when the cable gets caught on my tripod as I pan. Third-party Canon vendors, please make a simple, clean external power solution: A dummy-battery with the complete regulator built-in, a simple, 1m flexible (silicone, maybe coiled?) cable, and a D-tap connector on the other end. And then put a reasonable price-tag on it (and make one for the R5 too).

The Canon DR-E6C DC Coupler for EOS R5 C is only compatible with the Canon EOS R5 C Mirrorless Cinema Camera. The Canon DR-E6C DC Coupler could be connected to the Anker 26800mAh power bank or a Gold mount or V-mount pack. You would need to purchase the Canon CA-946 Compact Power Adapter for Select Canon Cinema EOS Cameras and Camcorders, B&H # CACA946, to use the Canon DR-E6C DC Coupler for EOS R5 C listed above to power the Canon EOS R5 C Mirrorless Cinema Camera via a standard household AC power outlet.

The Canon R5C has a small cutout on the bottom part of the grip, close to the battery door that you can slip the cable through.
