Refined Optics
  • As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
  • The lens is constructed with one SLD glass element and one FLD glass element to correct chromatic aberration. It incorporates three high-precision aspherical elements, which reduces the total size and weight of the lens.
Physical Design
  • I-series lens emphasizing a sleek and stylish physical design built to the same operational standards of Sigma's Cine lenses, including a mechanical aperture ring, knurled metal components, and various switches and tactile controls for intuitive operation.
  • Wide-angle 20mm lens designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however, can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 30mm equivalent focal length.
  • Bright f/2 maximum aperture strikes and ideal balance between speed and size and manages to maintain a compact physical profile while also offering low-light performance and depth of field control.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Fast Closeup Focusing
  • Integrated stepping motor realizes smooth and quiet autofocus. Full-time manual focus control can also be selected via an arc-type auto/manual focus switch. A newly designed linear/non-linear manual focus function is also available.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 8.7" for unique close-up shooting capabilities.
All-Purpose Functionality
  • All-metal body and high-precision metal parts with a dust- and moisture-resistant lens mount for increased protection from the elements.
  • Metal lens hood helps to reduce lens flare when working in strong lighting conditions and also offers some protection to the front element of the lens.
  • Compatible with optional CH-11 Magnetic Cap Holder, which features a mini-carabiner for clipping to a bag, jacket, or belt loop.

I mainly use this lens for video along with a few more lenses from the same product line. These are light and convenient but sturdy, as they are made well, They feel good in your hand and deliver above and beyond what you may expect for its price.

I bought this lens after being quite disappointed with the softness and size of the Sony GM 14mm f1.8 lens (which I returned). The Sigma 20mm f1.8 was a bit of a gamble - less wide than I wanted for astro. BUT - in the weeks I have had it it has become the lens that stays on my R3. I have shot well over a thousand frames with it and am delighted. I can report that the 20mm f1.8 is super sharp in center from wide open and sharp across the frame at f4. Autofocus works perfectly and fast. Lens is small and light enough to be carried around. No funky lens hood or filters to worry about. Groups, landscapes, macro, astro - it does it all!. I have nine Sony mount lenses from the Sigma 20 to the Sony GM100-400. This 20 is what I use now for 90% of my shooting. The Sony 85 f1.8 gets used for portraits, and the rest are almost never used. My carry kit is only the Sigma 20 and the Sony 85.
