These were at the top of the recommendttions for an 8 year old. At that age, kids are ready for a real pair of binoculars. These seem more appropriate form toddlers, and younger kids. I wil nto be giving these toys to my grandson. He wanted real binoculars. They come in a cheap clear plastic package, another low quality feature.
Got this for my 12 y.o. Grandson who suddenly got interested in astronomy. Nice for a beginner and easy to handle. Gives grandson a nice intro to sky watching.
