Epson D1070 Overview

The SureLab D1070 Professional Minilab Printer from Epson is designed for high-production printing of small-format photos. It supports up to 213' paper rolls and prints up to 460 photos per hour in the 4 x 6" size, 300 at 5 x 7", and 165 at 8 x 10". The compact size and integrated output tray of the D1070 Minilab make it well-suited for photo booths as well as portrait and event photography. The D1070 Minilab prints on one side only. (For dual-sided printing on paper sheets, please check out the related D1070DE, which supports paper rolls but also includes a duplex sheet feeder.)

The D1070 Minilab printer features the advanced Epson MicroPiezo AMC printhead and AccuPhoto image processing technology. It supports the UltraChrome D6r-S six-color ink set, sold separately. These vivid dye-based inks deliver a wide color gamut and produce prints that are resistant to water, smudging, and fading. Other key features include a nozzle detection and alignment technology that ensures less downtime and more reliable operation. Connect the printer over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB.

This is my second shot at ordering this printer. I really was hesitant as my last printer went out a couple weeks after the warranty but I had hoped for better results the second time around. I also had a lot of ink and supplies left over so I did not want to spend hundreds more on an all new set of supples for a Fujifilm or other brand. This printer has not functioned properly since I had received it a month ago leaving black ink streaks on the edges of my very first set of prints. I now have an issue with the printer stopping between a handful of prints with an "Out of paper" error when we have a full roll. We not successfully printed more than a dozen prints.

When it works, it works amazing. When it doesn't work, it fails epically. We print approx. 300-500 4x6 photos a day. So far in the 6 months of ownership, it's been overnight replaced 5 times. Yep, 5 times in 6 months Epson overnighted us a free replacement due to some kind of failure relating to the ink system. Most of the time it'll just dump a cup of ink inside itself and make a giant mess. Other times the printhead fails and it's not a user serviceable part. Epson replaces them with refurbished printers, so they almost alway fail either out of the box or shortly after. Our 5th replacement Epson sent us a new one, that they personally tested. So far, so good. Crossing fingers. It's the only name in the game for a modern small format high volume roll roll paper printer. No other choice to pick from. I'm going to be forced to buy a 2nd one here soon. Buy the service plan!!! You're going to use it!!

What is the “archival” rating for the prints from ...

What is the “archival” rating for the prints from this dye ink printer ?

The Epson SureLab D1070 Professional Minilab Printer uses dye based ink and is not considered archival. Pigment based prints can last unchanged for 100 years or more.

Yes, the Epson SureLab D1070DE Professional Minilab Printer with Duplex Sheet Feeder can print on 8" roll media. The maximum print length is 39.3". It can print 8x12", 8x14" and other lengths up to that maximum.
