B&H and NUC12 Extreme are Great

My latest purchase experience with Intel NUC12 Extreme from B&H was just great. By Payboo enrolling you get the BEST price on the market. My order placed late in the day was still ship the same day for free. Availability the live person on the phone streamlined Payboo questions. Better then Amazon. I watched several assembly trainings on YouTube and was able to put the system together within 20 min. Installation of Windows 11 was a bit of a problem as LAN and WiFi presence in a computer was not detected by Windows. And so you have two choices: to complete the installation w/o network connection (find how to do it on internet as it's not straightforward as in Windows 10), or download, as I did, WiFi drivers from Intel web site for this model and reference them during Windows 11installation/setup to be included. I installed NVIDIA 3070 Ti video card when assembled the machine and my recommendation is do not install anything from the Intel web site but run several rounds of windows updates till all drivers including NVIDIA will be installed and system is running. BIOS update from Intel may be installed after. I had not very good experience with the latest NVIDIA drivers and decided to stay with everything from windows updates only. It allowed me to install Windows 11 22H2 w/o any conflicts and delays. The system is very stable, 12-14 hours a day, good power management and fans only up as needed. Quiet and powerful system. I am happy with NUC12 Extreme and B&H.

This states that there are 2 10gig nics a couple times in the description/specs. The photo shows 2 nics. They have the specs mixed with the i9 and the photos are for the i9 not the i7. Contacted support and their response was to sell me a $100 nic for their mistake. Not not interested in spending more money for their mistake so will be returning it. I bought this because of the 2 nics.

BEWARE - Defective

The i9 NUC claims to support XMP RAM, but after trying multiple kits (including one that Intel specifically validated), it turns out it will never get full speed. There's something fundamentally broken with this. The DDR4 support to save money was disappointing, but on top of that Intel didn't even release a gaming product that fully supports ancient RAM. Avoid, avoid, avoid. This is a fundamentally broken product.

Great Product, and Great Retail Service

Absolutely beautiful computer, love how it looks, and the install of components was a breeze. The delivery was really fast, first time buying from B&H and I will recommend them to anyone. My only issue was with what size graphics card can fit in the case. While Intel says it can fit graphics cards up to two slots, you have to make sure the width of the graphics card is under 4.3 inches.

Does it have 4 Gen4 m.2 NVME SSD slots or only 3?
Asked by: Rohit
The NUC 12 Extreme has three M.2 slots. Two on the front of the processor module and one on the rear. The rear slot, accessible from an inside hatch, does not require the processor module to be opened for installation, though the left side of the unit need to be removed. Further, the rear slot is directly attached to the CPU rather than going through the chipset.

The amount of noise would largely depend on if and which GPU you chose to install and if it was under load.

Without using the front 3.5mm headphone jack, what's the best way to get audio from this box?
Asked by: Jeff
So there's an audio issue with USB audio, that I assume doesn't affect "headphone jack" audio and that is a series of pops during machine shutdown and start/restart. Somewhat annoying and I haven't found a fix. I don't believe the issue is restricted to the NUC, but I am not certain. In regard to "background noise," my NUC 12 Extreme is silent. I had an issue with a background hum and I had a very loud hum with a specific 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable, but I was able to eliminate them. I'd suggest first that you reroute any cables you can inside the NUC. There's not that much you can do, but unbundling the video card power cables and running some of those cables UP and some of them DOWN may help. Changing the 3.5mm cable might help. As I said, I used one that was quite non-silent. I used an older cable I had on hand and that worked fine... AFTER I made sure that the cable wasn't routed too close to any other cables. As I said, I have been able to get crystal clear sound out of the unit, and sometimes I think it has even better sound than other machines I've recently used. Better separation and/or clarity.
