ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17
12th Gen Intel Core Performance
The system is powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H processor. It can reach a stock speed of 2.5 GHz and can be boosted up to 5.0 GHz. There are six performance cores and eight efficiency cores for a total of 14 cores.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-Series Graphics
The dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-Series graphics card is designed to deliver high frame rates and advanced features such as real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and more to enhance your entertainment and content creation experiences.
Adaptive-Sync Technology
With built-in Adaptive-Sync Technology, the laptop's display dynamically adjusts its refresh rate to the frame rate being output by the graphics processor, greatly reducing screen tearing, stuttering, and other artifacts.
Aura Sync Underglow
The wraparound light bar has a higher LED density to evenly illuminate the three front edges of the chassis, while additional LEDs beneath the display add a diffused glow on deck. Coordinate illumination across your entire suite of compatible Aura Sync peripherals to set the mood for competitive play.
Customizable Armor Caps
Add a pop of personality to your chassis with Customizable Armor Caps. Two additional color options come in the box so you can swap out effortlessly, letting you switch up your style anytime. For a fully customized touch, ASUS also has a 3D printing template that makes it easy to create original looks of your own.
ROG Intelligent Cooling
Powerful components require a robust cooling solution. The SCAR utilizes liquid metal thermal compound on the CPU and four dedicated fan outlets to efficiently transfer heat out of the system. ROG Intelligent Cooling allows critical components like the CPU and GPU to maintain higher boost frequencies for longer periods of time, keeping your frame rates smooth and steady even during extended gaming sessions. The Strix SCAR also upgraded to Thermal Grizzly's Conductonaut Extreme Liquid Metal on the CPU. An ultra-high performance thermal interface material, Conductonaut Extreme can keep these components up to 15°C cooler than traditional thermal pastes. The SCAR keeps noise in check, too. For example, when in Performance mode, the Strix SCAR does not exceed 40 dB of noise.
Windows 11
A New Start Position
Windows 11 has been completely redesigned from its predecessor to emphasize productivity, creativity, and ease of use. The customizable Start Menu is now at the center of the taskbar and utilizes the cloud, allowing you to quickly find and access recent files, regardless of what platform or device was previously used to view them. The streamlined Start Menu design also lets you pin apps and recent files in addition to powering down the system.
Making Productivity a Snap
Multitask with speed and efficiency with the ability to snap apps side by side. Snap Layouts and Snap Groups help to keep your windows organized using different layouts that are designed to fully optimize your screen space, no matter its size and resolution. Windows 11 also remembers their positions, so you can resume from where you left off when selecting Snap Groups from the task bar, allowing you to switch between both individual applications and entire projects. Snap Layouts are also automatically restored when docking laptops with external monitors.
Microsoft Teams Integration
Stay connected with friends, family, coworkers, and clients with Microsoft Teams Chat integrated onto the Windows 11 taskbar. With a touch, you can connect to your contacts via text, voice, and video, regardless of whether they're using Windows, Android, or iOS devices. You can also communicate with those who don't have the Teams app installed using two-way SMS messaging.
Adapting to You
The Adaptive Input feature automatically optimizes the Windows 11 interface to however you prefer to interact with your device, whether it's using a mouse, keyboard, touch, voice, or handwriting.
Next Level Gaming
Windows 11 is designed to deliver smooth, immersive gaming experiences with DirectX 12 Ultimate providing realistic graphics at high frame rates while Auto HDR automatically adjusts your game's lighting and contrast for high dynamic range. DirectStorage technology streamlines data access to better take advantage of high-speed devices such as NVMe solid-state drives and directly from graphics cards without dragging down the CPU, which minimizes load times while helping to reduce artifacts such as texture popping. Topping it all off is Xbox Game Pass integration, which provides you with access to a massive library of games with a membership subscription.
Redesigned Microsoft Store
The Microsoft Store is rebuilt from the ground up for a streamlined experience when looking for content such as apps, games, movies, and shows. Apps downloaded from the Store have been tested for security and family safety. Android apps will also be available on the Microsoft Store through the Amazon Appstore and can be used directly on your PC from the taskbar or Start Menu.

What do I do with the transformer?

I don't like the location of the AC port, it's very uncomfortable. but more inconvenient is the power cord design. They located the transformer in the middle of the cable. in places other than table, it falls down and disconnects the AC port.

A beast in more way than 1

This machine is a beast-and in more than one way. I waited a few weeks before writing this to get used to the machine and deal with the pain that is Windows 11. This isn't about Windows 11, so I'll say no more about that. The machine is large, having a 17 inch monitor it's 16 wide by almost 12 deep and about 1 inch tall. If you plan to haul this around in a backpack, you can do it, but you will probably not like it much. With the machine just under 6 pounds and the 280W power brick another pound or two, it's a lot of weight to carry. The power adapter is literally a brick, well almost as large as one anyway, it comes in at 7 x 3.5 x 1.5 (LxWxH). Not small or light, weighing in at 826g (29 oz. or 1.8 LBS) All and all, it's a large heavy machine, it is portable, and I love to be able to play games or whatever, wherever I would like. Due to its size it isn't very comfortable on your lap, and can get quite warm. There is a reason for all this size though, this machine is fast, I mean really fast. The I9 processor and 3080 laptop GPU are a great combination allowing great rendering with any title I have tried. The large 17 monitor is also very nice, sharp and clear. The 240Hz refresh is a really nice touch as well. According to various sites the RTX 3080 laptop GPU benchmarks at about the same as a desktop RTX 3070, so really good stuff for a laptop. The i9-12900h is no real benefit over the i7-12700h CPU found in other ASUS models from what I've been able to find. Userbenchmarks.com shows a 3% performance difference between the two. Upgrades, or access to memory and hard drives is really, really straight forward. One of the first things I did was add a second SSD. This took me about 10 minutes to complete and was super-simple. My only warning is to keep track of which screws go where in the bottom cover. I messed mine up and the middle screw I did use put pressure on the trackpad and caused it not to work. Not permanent damage, just an annoyance. On the subject of the trackpad, it is mediocre at best and feels like it goes ka-chunk every time it's pressed. And, worst of all, you cannot play games with it. There is no comfortable way to right click and move the cursor using the trackpad. This is more of a windows driver issue than hardware. If the manufacturer of the trackpad bothered, they could have written a driver to handle this, which would have been nice, seeing as it is sold as a gaming laptop. The keyboard is mediocre as the keys are pretty squishy. I do wish there was a bit more resistance. Though, realize, I prefer blue keys in my keyboards so this probably makes me a bit biased. Typing this review up feels okay. Do I recommend this machine? Yes. If you are looking for a gaming laptop and super-portability is not important, this will work well for you. Would I buy it again? Yes.

Title speaks for itself. Runs every game I’ve played on it with ease and amazing graphics. If you’re going to spend thousands on a laptop it’d better be this one.

This laptop is amazing. The speed and graphics are superb and the lighting effects are amazing. I can play games and not have buffering or freezing. The Keystone slot is an added plus. I can have my game launch and the settings automatically loaded. The shadow drive gives me added2 memory and when I remove the Keystone the Laptop locks and I do not have to worry about anyone getting in . This is a powerhouse computer with a load of options.
