Klipsch RP-500SA II Overview

Add immersive realism to your home theater with this pair of Reference Premiere RP-500SA II Two-Way Dolby Atmos Elevation/Surround Speakers from Klipsch in an inviting ebony finish. These versatile speakers can be mounted to a wall, and used as height or surround speakers, or placed on top of Atmos-compatible floorstanding speakers to be used as up-firing surrounds as part of a Dolby Atmos system. Either way, the angled design helps to ensure ambient environmental effects fill the room to draw you further into what you're watching.

The RP-500SA II are second-generation speakers that improve on the original by expanding the soundstage and delivering more accurate directivity of the sound it produces. They can each handle up to 70W RMS or 300W peak. The improved acoustics are thanks to a larger Tractrix horn as part of their 1" titanium LTS vented tweeters, and 70% larger voice coils in each of their 5.25" Cerametallic cone woofers.

Switchable Crossover
The integrated switchable crossover lets you change between regular surround and Atmos modes, optimizing its performance based on your existing speaker setup.
90 x 90° Silicon Composite Hybrid Tractrix Horn
Klipsch's proprietary Tractrix geometry in the horn is specifically crafted to efficiently transfer the high frequencies of the tweeters to the listener. This second-generation Tractrix horn is larger for better directivity and a wider overall soundstage. The Tractrix horn can accomplish this level of audio fidelity and smooth frequency response by being combined with a phase plug and a compressed molded silicon face.
LTS Titanium Diaphragm Tweeters
Part of Klipsch's Reference line, the LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) works to minimize distortion for more detailed audio reproduction.
Vented Tweeter Design
The housing of the tweeters in this pair of surround speakers clarifies the high-frequency signal by reducing standing waves that would otherwise create unwanted harmonics.
Cerametallic Woofers
Another signature aspect of Klipsch's Reference Premiere speakers are the Cerametallic woofers. These surround speakers are each equipped with a single 5.25" woofer, and the Cerametallic construction keeps it lightweight, yet rigid, to both maximize acoustic efficiency and minimize distortion. In the second-generation, voice coils are 70% larger in diameter to ensure flawless reproduction with better power handling, cone control, and linearity. The addition of aluminum shorting rings adds to the improved power handling and lower distortion, while the motor structure itself improves the transit response and adds more control with increased speed and improved accuracy.
Improved Input Panel
The RP-500SA II features audiophile-grade wiring and easily accessible aluminum binding posts for any connection type.
Premium Construction
Klipsch uses internally braced, furniture-grade MDF for a durable and attractive appearance. The ebony vinyl finish includes satin-painted baffles that have a scratch-resistant coating.
Magnetic Grille
You have the option of exposing the copper-colored woofer and tweeter or covering them up with a discrete speaker grille. The grille magnetically attaches to the front of the RP-500SA II.

Klipsch RP-500SA II Reviews

Front and mid top ceiling mounted

These are great! I mounted them on my ceiling following the Dolby written manual specifications. Note: Do not follow the picture that shows them in line with your floor-standing speakers—that illustration is misleading. Optimal placement is all about maintaining a 45–55° angle based on ceiling height. My ceilings are 8 feet tall; I placed these at a 50° angle to my left and right for the front heights, which puts them about 5 feet in front of me and 5 feet to either side. They perform incredibly well paired with my Denon 6800. If you choose to ceiling-mount them, make sure you flip the switch on the back to 'Surround.' I docked one star due to the difficult mounting process. Using only a keyhole mount made the installation a chore: I had to fit the screw head into the keyhole, use pliers to hold the screw while tightening a nut, and then thread it through my mounting bracket with a washer and locking nut. Otherwise, these are fantastic and do the job perfectly

Excellent Speakers. Great addition to the RP-8000F

The RP-500SA II are a perfect match for the RP-8000F II’s! The make the Atmos System work and the sound float in from above. They offer added vocals for crystal clear dialog. I love these speakers!

I'm trying to understand the difference between the first and second generation of the Klipsch RP-500SA. Searched the web and didn't see any useful information. Is there a significant difference?
Asked by: Erik
The 2nd Gen RP comes with an updated tractrix horn and new woofers made of spun-copper thermoformed crystal polymer for the purpose of minimizing resonance. Here is a link to a Klipsch page with further details on this. https://www.klipsch.com/blog/next-generation-reference-speakers-whats-the-difference
