HoldFast Gear Skinny Money Maker Overview

From Manufacturer

This bridle black medium Skinny MoneyMaker 3-Camera Harness from HoldFast Gear has a width of one inch and features removable shoulder pads. The D-rings are removable as well, so you can decide to keep them or remove them. The MoneyMaker is made from U.S. native steer hides, with anchored, rust-resistant, stainless steel D-rings and hardware, plus safety straps for ultimate security. The versatile design makes this harness an essential tool for the modern photographer.

The bottom side of the harness strap has a suede-like feel, and will shed a little at first use. Running your hand along the length of the strap will remove most of the loose shavings. The bottom side is also colorless, so it won't bleed onto your clothing.

HoldFast Gear uses real full grain leathers. As such, your harness may display the unique life that the animal lived, including scars from brands, barbed-wire cuts, stretch marks, insect bites, birthing marks, and natural creases.

Size/Fit
The Skinny MoneyMaker is 1" wide and has 1.5" wide shoulder pads.

Fit is based on height and broadness. The ideal carrying position of the MoneyMaker is for the strap to fall about 4" below the armpit so the cameras stay high on the body.

Small: Height of 5'7" and below; if you are broad/built, size up

Medium: Height between 5'8-6'2"; if you are slender, size down, broad or built, size up

Large: Height of 6'3" and above or wear extra-large clothing

Ideally, you want the straps of the MoneyMaker to fall about 4-5" below your armpits. Optimum fit will ensure the most comfort long term. If the MoneyMaker is worn too loose it causes the cameras to swing and sway too much, which puts pressure on your lower back while the straps will tend to move and slip more. When worn properly, the MoneyMaker is anchored to the body and actually helps to correct poor shooting posture by pulling your shoulders upright and back, keeping you and your cameras in line. When the main straps are around 4" below your armpit area, this will place the clip that attaches to the camera right around your waist line. So, there should be a good amount of arm bend when your hand is on the camera at resting position.

HoldFast Gear Skinny Money Maker Reviews

Painful

I have owned and used this strap for four years now. Initially, I loved it because it was pretty. I chose Holdfast for its stylish and technically functional harness. However, there are several significant pain points future photographers should be aware of: Pain Point One: Despite recent ad campaigns, the Holdfast strap pulls your shoulders forward and down, causing tremendous back pain. I've tried adjusting my strap in numerous ways over the years, but nothing has helped. Essentially, if you have a camera on each side, it will pull your shoulders down. Pain Point Two: The sliding design of the camera along the harness pinches everything from your hair to your clothing to your skin, and it hurts. Pain Point Three: As a wedding photographer, I like to take off my harness during my quick break for dinner at the reception. If I lay my harness on the table or anywhere where it’s not perfectly flat, the two straps tangle, making it impossible to put it back on without spending at least 5 to 20 minutes to untangle and correctly configure it again. This is a stress on a wedding day that no photographer should have to endure. Pain Point Four: The safety strap on the connection piece twists like crazy, often requiring me to untwist my camera before I can take an image. Most photographers can see how this can cause an issue when you need to be quick on your feet while switching back and forth between cameras. The biggest pro I have to say about the Holdfast Money Maker harness is that it is beautiful, the leather is of great quality, and it’s built to last. However, it desperately needs a design upgrade to provide long-term users with relief and improved functionality.

Not comfortable for my frame

I wanted to love this Holdfast camera Harness, but unfortauntely, after shooting with 2 dslrs + lenses for 4+ hours, it really hurt my shoulder and area near my armpit. I thought the skinnier harness would be better for my petite frame but it rubbed and was uncomfortable. I returned for the thicker leather, and will give that a shot. Perhaps it takes a few uses to wear-in, but I want it to be comfortable right away when I'm on my feet shooting for hours.

question

Which leather is softest/most pliable?
Asked by: Sandra N.
Holdfast Gear states that, of their options, the American Bison is definitely the softest leather; next is the water buffalo and then the bridle leather is the most stiff to start out with but softens over time.
