This software can be used for composing, sequencing, beat making, recording, editing, mixing, and mastering—making it ideal for producing and scoring tracks from start to finish on a budget, in all genres. Elements 12 features several updates and enhancements including MIDI remote integration, audio to MIDI chords, sample-accurate volume automation, Bluetooth MIDI in Windows, and numerous performance improvements, as well as workflow enhancements and native Apple Silicon support.
For superior audio quality, Cubase Elements 12 utilizes a 64-bit audio engine compatible with resolutions up to 192 kHz. The software offers 48 audio, 64 MIDI, and 24 instrument tracks with full automatic delay compensation and flexible routing options, and can accommodate up to 24 physical inputs and outputs as well as 16 group channels. Users have access to 45 audio FX plug-ins, three virtual instruments with over 1000 sounds, sidechain inputs, and the ability to integrate with Yamaha's Motif keyboard workstation.

- Audio to MIDI Chords: Drag your audio recording to the Chord Track and Cubase will lay out the chord progression for you. And if the detection does not match your scale, the Chord Assistant can suggest the nearest alternatives based on the following chords.
- Goodbye Dongle: Cubase 12 ushers in a new era with a licensing system that doesn’t require the USB eLicenser copy protection device and also lifts many restrictions of the past.
- Editing Workflow Improvements: Steinberg has improved the editing workflows with new functions and key commands to help. The new nudge grid options let you edit independently from the project grid. Additionally, Steinberg has added key commands to the Range Selection tool for easier navigation. There are also new key commands to slip event content, adding fades and sizing events with fades.
- Sample Accurate Volume Automation: Volume automation is now near sample accurate and completely independent from the buffer size.
- Bluetooth MIDI in Windows: Cubase now supports MIDI over Bluetooth in Windows 10.
