Fantastic Optics

I love this monocular! I upgraded from an 8X32 Nocs Field Tube because I am currently spending a lot of time digiscoping (using the monocular attached to my phone to take pictures). Specifically, I use if for birding and bird pictures. Quality: Fantastic! The amount of light let in is great. I use it at dawn and dusk regularly and can get clear pictures all the way up to sunset. The image clarity is also really good. No (or extremely minimal) color fringing around subjects, even in back lit sky shots. Comparisons: I compared it directly to a Hawke Sport optics endurance ed 10x42mm monocular and the amount of light and image clarity was better (not suuuuper hugely better but better); the little bit of extra light let in allowed for much faster shutter speeds (which is critical for fast moving birds). The field of view was also larger using my current digiscoping set up (Samsung S25 and Nocs Photo Rig II). It definitely feels heavier in hand than either the Hawke or Nocs but feels just as, if not more, sturdy. Cons: Only one con really - the focus wheel. The focus wheel is a little hard to turn at first (although it does appear to be loosening up a little with time and use). By comparison the Hawke was buttery smooth and could even be focused with one hand. But I do like that the focus wheel is integrated into the body instead of sticking out because it is sleeker for carrying. Overall: I would actually give it a 4.8 if I could (because of the focus wheel tightness), but would absolutely recommend! If you are looking for an excellent quality monocular at this price range it is definitely worth it. And I highly recommend it for digiscoping with the right set up.

Clear and sharp, but bigger than many monoculars

I own three monoculars: a Vertex 10x25, a Leica 8x20, and this Opticron 10x42. The Vertex is the most rugged and good for a rocky hike; the Leica and Opticron are significantly clearer and sharper, though. The Opticron is the easiest to use because of its wider field of view, but is bigger and heavier (though still much more portable than an optically equivalent pair of binoculars--I always prefer monoculars for that reason). The clarity and magnification make it ideal for looking at more distant objects, such as waterfowl far from shore.
