Magewell Pro Convert Overview

Convert 4K 12G-SDI video to an NDI stream with the Pro Convert 12G-SDI 4K Plus video signal converter from Magewell. The Pro Convert 12G-SDI 4K Plus is a plug-and-play video converter that features one SDI input and one SDI loop-through output with eight channels of embedded audio, and it supports SDI input up to DCI 4K 4096 x 2160 video at 60 fps. The RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port supports encoded NDI output up to DCI 4K 4096 x 2160 8-bit 4:2:2 video at 60 fps.

The 12G-SDI loop-through output allows you to view your input on a monitor while your NDI-encoded stream can be sent to a variety of NDI-compatible encoding or streaming applications such as OBS, XSplit, vMix, Wirecast, and others via Ethernet. The mini DIN-8 tally/PTZ port provides tally input to pass-through as well as for use with the unit's status LEDs. The LEDs also indicate power, output, and input signal status.

The unit is powered by a 5V power adapter connected to its USB 2.0 Type-B port or via PoE over its RJ45 port. The Pro Convert can be managed with a web UI to configure settings and to perform firmware updates via the USB port. A 1/4"-20 mounting thread allows you to mount the unit in a rack, with a bracket, or on a stand. Included with the Pro Convert are a USB cable, a 5V power adapter, a mini DIN-8 cable, and an L-bracket for mounting.

I purchased four of these converters for use with NDI PTZ cameras. I use them to record to a multi-channel SDI recorder at the same time as a laptop running Wirecast for simultaneous recording, switching and control. In addition to NDI and NDI-HX, the ProConverter can process other Ethernet sources, including RTSP and SRT. Setup is via a built-in web page, accessible via USB or Ethernet. They connect to the cameras and computer through a 10 port, managed Ethernet switch, optimized for AV production.

I needed a converter last minute to take an ndi feed to sdi externally. This definitely did the job. Simple and easy setup as well. If needed, I would get another one without a doubt!

Yes, the Magewell Pro Convert for NDI to SDI Decoder supports manually setting output resolution and frame rate. You will be able to select 1080p 29.97 as the output resolution.

Can I attach three of these to 5 port switch and still get a good quality feed? They would each be bringing a different NDI signal.

That will depend on the speed of the Network Switch. We recommend Gigabit network switches and higher for NDI set ups.
