Auray RF-5P-R Overview

Great for recording in untreated rooms, the Auray RF-5P-R Five-Panel Reflection Filter isolates your microphone from its surrounding environment to minimize distracting noises and diffuse unwanted acoustic reflections. The five, multilayered panels with perforations and high-density acoustic foam combine to absorb ambient noise without adding coloration to your sound, enhancing the clarity and presence of your voice for professional-sounding podcasts, voiceovers, and vocal recordings at home or in the studio.

The RF-5P-R is compatible with most microphone stands and it has integrated feet for standalone desktop recording. A sliding bracket allows you to mount any condenser, dynamic, or USB microphone and easily adjust the depth of the mic's position inside the filter for precise placement. The panels are made of sturdy, yet lightweight plastic and fold up to a tight ring for convenient storage and travel.

Five-Panel Flexible Design
  • Five adjustable panels, each with a fold-down top panel enable you to configure the filter to meet your acoustic needs. Spread the panels to form a filter wall for miking speaker cabinets, or fold them to create a narrow, 300° enclosure for maximum isolation and dry, clean vocals.
  • The panels feature a stylish black finish with red accents.
Three-Layer Acoustic Isolation
The RF-5P-R filter offers three-layers of isolation that includes a high-density acoustic foam, a layer of acoustic fabric, and perforated screens.

  • The high-density acoustic foam absorbs acoustic reflections and minimizes room ambience.
  • The perforated screens diffuse sound as it passes through the shield, preventing sound reflections from bouncing off surfaces and back into the microphone.
Fold-Down Top Panels
  • The RF-5P-R is equipped with flip-down top panels that help minimize noise coming from above the microphone including overhead air ducts and fluorescent light fixtures.
Mic-Stand and Desktop Isolation
  • Built-in feet let you mount the RF-5P-R on a desktop for recording podcasts at home or in the office.
  • The 5/8"-27 thread enables you to mount the filter on a standard studio mic stand.
Adjustable Microphone Bracket
  • Whether you’re using a large-diaphragm studio condenser or a handheld dynamic mic, the sliding bracket lets you position your microphone inside the filter for the ideal isolation.

The Auray RF-5P-R is a good reflection filter. It isolates my vocal mic really well. It is cheaper than the iso booth, but with a similar result, however its construction is very plastic and fairly flimsy. Luckily I had a counter nut standing by as the unit doesn’t attach very well to a mic stand. (I had to re-fasten it down so it would be solid and stable). Unfortunately you have to use the arm bracket it comes with to hold it onto the stand. It would be better if it had some better mounting options. Summary: it does what it is supposed to do. Can’t expect much more than that for the price, but would have preferred a better build quality and a better attachment style to a mic stand.

Would this work with a Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone on an Auray BAI-2N Two-Section Broadcast Arm?
Asked by: Ken
The Auray RF-5P-R Five-Panel Reflection Filter could be used with the Shure MV7, but it is too large and heavy to mount on a moveable broadcast arm.

Has anyone actually used this with a script to read? If so,...how did you manage to find space for it????
Asked by: Togo
The Auray RF-5P-R Five-Panel Reflection Filter is designed to isolate a microphone from picking up background noises. The panels are adjustable, so if you are in an environment where you don't need to fully enclose the mic, you could adjust one of the sides to have the panels open slightly more so you can place your script at about the same level as the mic.

How effective is this device when two people in a room each use this device with their mic? Does audio from one mic bleed through to the other mic's recorded track?
Asked by: Emily
Yes, you may have some mic bleed between the two Auray RF-5P-R Five-Panel Reflection Filter (Black and Red, Plastic) units in the same room, particularly if they are a very close distance away from each other.
