Audio-Technica BP40 Large-Diaphragm Dynamic Broadcast Microphone
Featuring a number of optimizations for spoken word and vocal capture, the BP40 Large-Diaphragm Dynamic Broadcast Microphone from Audio-Technica boasts a hypercardioid polar pattern for strong off-axis rejection, and its voice coil is humbucking to prevent electromagnetic interference. The capsule itself is placed to assure present vocal capture even from a distance, while its internal pop filtering helps eliminate plosives.
This microphone is part of the B&H Virtual Mic Locker, an online tool to help our valued customers determine the sonic differences between popular microphones for podcasting and voice over work. Each microphone was recorded using a Grace Design M103 preamp into a Presonus Quantum 2626 interface.
Dynamic Microphone with Condenser Sound
The powerful dynamic capsule sports a rich, natural, condenser-like sound. The large-diaphragm dynamic transducer uses a patented floating-edge construction for optimal performance, and a humbucking coil prevents unwanted electromagnetic interference.
Hypercardioid Pattern
The hypercardioid pickup pattern is highly directional, improving audio isolation and helping to avoid undesirable room noises. This is particularly useful for those recording podcasts and streams in untreated rooms with lots of extraneous noises like air conditioners, traffic, roommates, or other ambient noises. A switchable 100 Hz high-pass filter further helps avoid low-frequency rumbles like mic handling noises and desk vibrations.
Optimized Capsule Placement
The optimized capsule placement allows for a commanding vocal presence, even at a distance. No need to bring the mic way in to exploit the proximity effect, now you can get the same sound while keeping the microphone at a reasonable distance. You also get superior off-axis rejection for maximum gain before feedback.
Integrated Windscreen
The integrated multistage metallic windscreen provides superior internal pop filtering, helping you to avoid pesky plosive consonants like Ps and Ts. The BP40 also includes an AT8483 mounting clamp for 5/8"-27 thread stands and a 5/8"-27 to 3/8"-16 thread adapter so you can mount your mic to any stand.
Durable and Built to Last
The rugged, all-metal construction is dependable and ideal for use in professional broadcast environments. You also get a convenient carry pouch to help you carry your mic to your next engagement.
Audio-Technica AT8484 Microphone Shockmount for the BP40 Broadcast Microphone

Helping attenuate noise, shock, and vibrations from reaching your BP40, the AT8484 Microphone Shockmount for the BP40 Broadcast Microphone from Audio-Technica features an inner shockmount ring that rotates to engage ball bearings that lock the microphone in place. It is compatible with 5/8"-27 threaded stands.

Audio-Technica BP40 Reviews

Built like a tank with great sound for VO work

I've recorded one audiobook with this mic and I love it. No need for a popfilter, it's a very forgiving mic but still gives a great full sound, I started with the AT 4033CL and this mic sounds everybit as good with out picking up dogs barking a block away. I'm half way done with my second project and I'm not going to add any post work to it, no need. The shock mount is a cheap feeling polymer plastic but its held up great and has a quick release that is usefull. It does take allot of gain to push this mic I use a FetHead with a Clarett 2pre set at 7 to get about -3db of head room in Logic pro X with a floor of around -60 to -55.

An excellent quiet dynamic microphone for podcasts and VO

This is an equal to the other dynamic broadcast microphones. It rejects room noise well and sounds more like a condenser mic than a dynamic mic. Very well suited to podcasting, voiceover, and broadcast. I'm surprised that it hasn't risen to popularity alongside the other dynamic mics in its price category.
