Overloud GEM EQP Overview

Breathing new life into old gems, the GEM EQP Three-In-One Passive EQ Plug-In from Overloud packs not one, but three legendary passive EQ units into one comprehensive plug-in, with the ability to leverage modern technology to accurately emulate the warm, fat, and rich sound of classic analog reverb circuits. Inspired by the Pultec EQP-1A, MEQ-5, and HLF 3C, the GEM EQP obsessively recreates the transformer-based circuitry of these venerable units while simultaneously reaching beyond their original capabilities.

The Gem EQP plug-in features numerous useful functions for dialing in specific EQ tones including a clipper for enhancing transients and adding punch, a fully-detailed recreation of the original harmonic generator for adding warmth, and internal unit calibration selection for altering harmonic generation. A selectable high-oversampling mode allows for extremely high-resolution signal processing. The plug-in is fully compatible with Windows (Vista or later) and macOS (10.9 or later) in AU, VST, or AAX64 plug-in formats.

Pushing Emulation to the Extreme
Gem EQP emulates some the most desired EQ modules in the history of recording and mixing. Their warm, fat, and rich sound, with an incredibly detailed midrange, still excite even the most experienced engineers who are mixing with it. The original tone shaping circuits are based on passive designs, which gives them a unique tonal character: however, in order to compensate for the loss of levels in the passive circuit, the hardware units are equipped with an input transformer and an output tube amplifier, which creates very musical harmonics as well as a deep and warm bass sensation.

This is where most of the digital emulations fail. The EQP uses the Overloud's unique Harmonic Matching technology in order to recreate the original coloration in a way that has never been possible before.

Beyond the Originals
The Gem EQP sports features that combine the flexibility of the digital world with the character of analog processing to go beyond the capabilities of the originals.

  • Built-in programmable clipper enhances transients and adds punch
  • Fully resizable graphic EQ display for realtime monitoring of frequency responses for each module or whole unit
  • Internal unit calibration allows you to change the harmonic generation, ranging from -8 to -21 dBFS
  • Multilevel undo and redo functions
  • Selectable high-oversampling mode
DAW or Standalone
Gem EQP can be used as either a standalone program or a DAW compatible plug-in, providing you with maximum flexibility in a modern digital ecosystem. The Gem EQP plug-in is supported by the following DAWs:

  • ProTools 11 and above
  • Logic Pro 9 and above (macOS only)
  • Cubase 6 and above
  • Ableton Live 6 and above
  • SONAR X3 and Platinum (Windows only)
  • Digital Performer 7 and above
  • Nuendo 5 and above
  • MainStage 2 and above (macOS only)
  • Studio One
  • Garage Band 10 and above (macOS only)
  • Final Cut Pro X 10 and above (macOS only)
  • REAPER
Three Units in One
Low & High
The Low & High unit is the most well known variation and features two bands with individual boost and attenuation parameters as well as an additional treble attenuation control. The attenuation parameter is centered on a different frequency than the boost, allowing you to create dips after the boosted frequency. This creates deep basses and a very in-focus and smooth top-end.
Mid
The Mid unit offers two boosting bands and one attenuation band. The original circuit is fully passive and has two transformers: one at the input and one at the output, which add harmonics on the transients. In addition to its unique frequency response, the Mid module delivers a highly musical coloration to your tracks.
High & Low Cut
Another fully passive circuit that allows you to select the bandwidth in a very musical way. One knob provides selection of high-cut frequencies, and the other provides control of the low-cut frequencies.
