In search of an ultraportable, battery-powered mixer, multichannel audio interface, and recorder? Check out the teenage engineering TX-6, a pint-sized powerhouse that manages to squeeze a ton of features into this CNC-machined aluminum enclosure with custom-made encoders and faders. The device can be used as a multifunctional 32-bit / 48 kHz audio interface with effects including reverb, chorus, delay, freeze, tape, filter, distortion, and more.

The TX-6 features six 3.5mm TRS inputs, a 3.5mm aux output, a 3.5mm cue (headphone) output, and a 1/4" main output with an included 3.5mm adapter. Each channel sports three encoders that are completely customizable. Use them as a 3-band EQ or assign each knob to control whichever settings you prefer. The TX-6 is highly versatile and includes tempo sync, an onboard synthesizer, drum machine, and sequencer. There's an onboard tuner, plus you can connect to both a computer or to your iOS device (MFi compatible). A USB-C cable is included.

  • BLE MIDI clock in/out support with clock routing settings.

  • Switchable aux and cue outputs, to be able to utilize the higher output level of the aux jack if needed for high impedance headphones.
  • Added balanced mono input mode in addition to the stereo / mono / split modes.
  • Parameters keep their values until a knob is moved, making it easier to switch knob config without undesired behavior.

Battery Powered
The rechargeable battery holds for about 8 hours. For energy efficiency, the display automatically goes to sleep when not in use, and LED strength is completely adjustable.
Synthesizer and Sequencer
TX-6 also functions as a portable synthesizer and sequencer with 4 oscillator waveforms and 4 synthesized drum sounds. Use tempo sync to stay on the beat.
Built-In Effects
Explore send effects like reverb, chorus, and delay, and creative effects freeze, tape, filter, and distortion. Each channel has a 3-band EQ and adjustable compressor.
Quality Engineering
TX-6 is a sturdy little machine. encased in CNC aluminum with 2k molding, custom-made encoders and faders, and custom PCB—engineered for portability.
Wireless Connectivity
With BLE, you can use TX-6 as a wireless controller for other BLE MIDI devices or trigger and sync the internal synth and sequencer from other sources.
Super Slimline Cables
High-quality slimline cables custom-made for TX-6 (available separately). The narrow profile allows you to use all 6 channels at once and makes for an easy pack down.
Customizable Interface
When you're ready for the studio, use TX-6 as a 12-channel audio interface and connect to any DAW over USB-C. MFi also allows you to connect to iOS devices.
DJ Mode
Turn TX-6 on its side and use it as a DJ mixer. Turn channel 1 into a fader to crossfade between channels 5 and 6, so you can fade or cut between the two.
1/4" and 3.5mm Outputs
Connect your audio output through 3.5mm mini jack or use the included and removable 1/4" jack to 3.5 mm mini jack adapter.

Designed to fit TX-6 field mixer and constructed in heavy-duty fabric and hardware, the separately sold field bags are designed for durability, ready to be used out in the field.

I use this for my piano station. Fits on my music stand next to my iPad. Piano signal goes in one channel and my iPad goes in another. This way I can play piano along with a backing track, instruction video or looping software. I can adjust the volume with the sliders. Can you use a larger, cheaper mixer? Sure…I did for years and it took up space and hum was always a factor. This doesn’t have any hum. The knobs and sliders are quality and so far I’m getting at least a week of usage out of it. The EQ works great. I haven’t used onboard effects or the other bells and whistles. It’s expensive, and people complain about that, but it’s made piano practice with my iPad so much easier. When the battery on this fails (like all batteries do eventually) I would definitely get another TX6 as a replacement. Btw, it is small…a bit wider than a pack of cards. Highly recommended.
