Works fine, however the Battery compartment screw and lens caps are poor designs. Battery compartment screw does not have a c clip to hold it in place. Without the clip you have to play hide and seek when it drops to the ground. Lens cap falls off too easily.

I really wanted this to work

Mine was defective, my main issue was the stepper motor for the RA axis was running too fast. It would overshoot everything and I mean by a lot. I noticed that the motor seemed to pulse as well, it would seem to be tracking, then it jumped forward. On some of the Goto attempts I actually had to stop the mount before it crashed. Sky Watcher customer support was not helpful, they suggested a few things (reinstall the app, turn off VPN, and level/balance the mount) all of which were either done already or were nowhere near related to the problems I was having. After research online I have found that this mount is fraught with problems (motors running too fast or too slow, noisy motors, polar scope reticle misaligned, excessive backlash). I feel I should have researched it better before hand. B&H took very good care of me. I elected to return this since it is defective and because I had a poor experience dealing with Sky Watcher customer support.

Is this tracker able to be operated without being connected to a phone or laptop? Most of my astrophotography is in areas where there is no cell reception, so My concern is I would not be able to operate it wirelessly in those areas (which would make the tracker useless to me).
Asked by: Thomas
Can be fully operated via smartphone or laptop. I use either. There is no need for cell service or other internet connection. It can be controlled wirelessly from a laptop or phone directly to the mount without another wifi or cell connection. Connect the cell phone or laptop to the mount's wifi connection point. Or if for some reason you don't want to use wifi you can connect a laptop to the mount via the included USB cable. I use the wifi mode instead of a cable on either the cellphone or laptop.
