Celestron C9 1/4-A XLT 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope (OTA Only, CGEM Dovetail)

Outfitted with a large aperture, long effective focal length, and their proprietary StarBright XLT optical coatings, the Celestron C9 1/4-A XLT 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope provides power and portability. The coating system consists of anti-reflection coatings on the corrector plate, highly reflective index mirror coatings, and low-absorption/high-transmission glass components to ensure that the maximum amount of light is gathered and transmitted to your eye. This system ensures bright and clear high-contrast images with accurate color rendition across the entire visual spectrum without visible distortion at the edges. Celestron includes a standard 1.25" visual back to accept eyepieces and accessories such as the 25mm eyepiece and 90° diagonal supplied with the optical tube assembly (OTA). This OTA is offered here without a mount or tripod for users who already have a support system. Just ensure the mount's payload capacity exceeds 20 pounds to safely carry the weight and that the mount has a Losmandy-style saddle to match the OTA's CGEM mounting plate.

Celestron CGX GoTo EQ Mount Head

Celestron's CGX GoTo EQ Mount Head improves on their venerable CGEM platform to provide users with a heavy-duty research-quality mount for large optical tube assemblies (OTAs), accessories, and imaging rigs. Engineered to carry a 55-pound payload, it has high-torque motors and heavy-duty belt-drive system to improve tracking stability and reduce backlash which enable it to smoothly and accurately track near- and deep-sky objects for long periods of time. Its Vixen/Losmandy dual dovetail saddle makes the mount compatible with most plates in use today.

The brain of the CGX EQ is the NexStar+ computer controller. Equipped with a database of 40,000 objects, including the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and the complete Messier catalog, it can also be programmed with up to 100 user-defined objects and filters for custom lists. Its intuitive menu-driven user interface allows you to observe the heavens with nine slew speeds and three tracking rates, plus anti-backlash compensation and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) for smoother movements in the motors and improved tracking over time. Features such as guided tours, extended information on 200 popular objects, and multiple alignment options make the NexStar+ controller easy to use for new users and experienced stargazers.

Celestron CGX Tripod with Counterweights

Designed to support their CGX equatorial mount, the Celestron CGX Tripod has large 2" diameter legs to provide a solid and sturdy platform for the mount head plus an optical tube assembly and accessories. To accommodate a variety of users, optical tube styles, and viewing positions, the legs can adjust from 47.25 to 77.5" and terminate with spikes to provide solid footing. Graduated markings on the lower leg sections enable you to accurately repeat settings, saving setup and leveling time if you observe from the same location every night. Adding greater stability and vibration suppression, the center accessory tray acts as a leg spreader to lock them in-place while providing a convenient place to keep eyepieces, filters, or your phone safe and close to hand. Two 11-pound counterweights come in the box to assist in properly balancing your OTA on the mount head.

Celestron C9.25 Reviews

Many, Many Pluses On This OTA

Fast Safe Delivery From BHP In 2 Business Days Via Federal Express, Amazing! Now As Far As The Product, Well I Hate Collimation, Even If These SCT's Are One Of The Easier Types. A Quick Artificial Star Collimation Showed That Out Of The Box, This SCT Was Pretty Close If Not Perfect, And Then A Nighttime Star Collimation Showed It Pretty Much Spot On. See The Picture. Love It. I'm Using It Reduced To 1460mm With A SCT IV Reducer, Baader Visual Back, ZWO OAG W/ASI174, Drawer, ASI533MCP, EAF, Sitting On An AM5 Mount And Tripod, With Counterweight And 20 Lbs Of Weight In The Tripod. Guides At About 0.5 Arcseconds, Which I Find Amazing. I've Only Had 2 Decent Nights, But So Far, I'm Pretty Pleased. I Was Thinking I Might End With A C11 Or C14, But Honestly, As I Get Older, I Think This OTA All Fully Rigged Up At 29 Pounds Not Including AM5 Downward, Is About All My Back Can Really Handle, Plus I Still Kind Of Like Small Refractors. I'm Strictly An Astrophotographer, So I Got The C9.25 Due To Its Combination Of Focal Length Options, Aperture, And Having A Flatter Field Than The Rest Of The Black Tube SCT's, And It Definitely Delivers With Flatness, At Least In The 533 Sensor, So BXT Doesn't Have Much Of A Job! Now Some Of That Is Probably From The Corrector, But Still, In The End, This C9.25 Is A Reliably Consistent Imaging Machine With Great Optics. I've Bought OTA's Used Before, But Save Yourself From Hours Of Potential Headaches, Get It New From BHP With Free 2 Day Shipping That Is Safe And Reliable. You Won't Be Disappointed.

Great value for portable but fairly large aperture telescope

I opted for the XLT rather than a more expensive EdgeHD of the same aperture. Performance has been very good, although I added an external focuser to avoid the small image shift that occurs with the supplied focussing mechanism. I also replaced the finder with a larger aperture and right-angle conventional image finder 'scope. It's great to have the light-gathering capacity and resolution of the 9.25 aperture, versus my 4, and the weight is easily transported and accommodated by my existing (AVX) mount. I dropped one star only because of the need to add accessories as described.

Can the Celestron C9 1/4-A XLT be upgraded to a 2 ...

Can the Celestron C9 1/4-A XLT be upgraded to a 2 inch focuser and 90 degree Eyepiece? If so what are the recommendations and part numbers? Thanks
Asked by: Frank
There are aftermarket 2" refractor-style focusers available that can be attached to the C9.25" OTA. You could also attach a 2" SCT 90 degree diagonal to the rear cell in order to use 2" eyepieces. Celestron item #93527

question

I see the mount handle obstructing the polar bore scope ? how do you polar align this with handle obstructing ?
Asked by: Guruprasad H.
The CGX and CGX-L mounts utilize the All Star Polar Alignment routine. It is substantially more accurate than a polar finder scope. However, if a customer insists on using a Polar Scope, we do offer one that is used off axis. But trust me, once you use All Star Polar Alignment - you will never want to use a polar scope again.
